The Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of Charles University, Prague opens a postdoc position within the ERC-CZ Grant LL2105, supported by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport of the Czech Republic: ”The interaction of fluids and solids”.

Project description: Fluid solid interaction happens in many everyday instances. Examples are blood flow, the motion of airplanes or floating (elastic) objects. The scientific challenge is sub-summarized in the free interaction interface between the solid and the fluid–the variable domain. The project is outlined for five years over which we aim to advance the theory and the numerics on fluid-structure interactions from various ends.

Job description: We seek researchers to strengthen the team of Sebastian Schwarzacher at the Departement of Mathematical Analysis and, in particular, to apply/develop analysis or numerics to fluid-structure problems studied within the project. Thus the ideal candidate has already contributed within at least one of the following scientific areas:

  • Analysis for models of fluid or solid mechanics
  • Numerics for models of fluid or solid mechanics
  • Calculus of Variations
  • Analysis for evolutionary PDEs

The position is for 3 years (1+2). The earliest possible start of the position is in October 2021. The successful candidate will be hired by the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics and receive a gross salary of 60000 CZK (around 2375 Euro) per month. Moreover the candidate will have access to travel and research funds. There will be further openings in the future for the ERC-CZ grant.

In case of interest please send your application until 16.9.2021 by email to schwarz@karlin.mff.cuni.cz. The application should be a single PDF file and include a CV, a research statement and the copy of the PhD diploma or if not available the master diploma. Two letters of recommendation should be sent separately to the same email address.
