Přehled

Tissue cultures are widespread in research in various biology, chemistry, immunology, and medicine fields. Usually, so-called immortalized cultures are used, i.e., cultures of cells that can multiply without limit, but are in some sense modified and therefore different from cells in real tissues – for example, various cancer cells. Recently, the use of so-called primary cells, i.e., cells that more closely resemble tissue cells, has become increasingly common. There are several sources of such cells, and it is often necessary to differentiate primary cells into a specific cell type.

In biomedicine, osteoblasts (bone cells) are often used in research on the interaction of bone tissue, e.g., with implants. The differentiation of primary osteoblasts requires their cultivation in a medium supplemented with specific growth factors for a prolonged period of time. The internship will aim to investigate the possibility of differentiation of primary osteoblasts using factors covalently immobilized on the surface of the culture vessel, which would simplify and streamline the procedure for the preparation of such cells.
