Research area: microbiology – extremophile microorganisms

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is one of 14 departments at the Faculty of AgriSciences of Mendel University in Brno. The department team consists of 80 employees who ensure scientific and educational development in the following areas: biochemistry (both plant and animal) and molecular biology, microbiology, algal and plant biotechnologies, nanotechnology, and bioanalytical chemistry. In the educational field, the department team focuses on providing and developing 2 study programs – undergraduate studies in the field of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology and postgraduate studies in Biological Chemistry.

What will your job responsibilities be?

  • leading lectures and practical classes in microbiology
  • collaborating on lectures in Czech and English
  • supervising, consulting, and reviewing students‘ final theses
  • developing educational and scientific research activities in the field of microbiology
  • actively participating in research projects and grants
  • publishing results in professional and scientific journals and presenting at conferences and seminars

What do we expect from you?

  • higher education, at least at the doctoral level
  • knowledge of English at least at level B1
  • experience in teaching in Czech and English
  • experience in supervising students‘ final theses, at least as a consultant
  • developing educational and scientific research activities in the respective field
  • actively participating in solving research projects and grants
  • publishing results of scientific research in professional journals and at conferences and seminars

What research experience do we require?

  • at least 3 years of experience in scientific work in the field of microbiology, ideally research on extremophile microorganisms
  • at least 10 publications in professional journals or conferences
  • experience working on scientific research projects as a solver/co-solver or team member
