Postdoctoral position available within the Department of Experimental Neurobiology

We are looking for qualified, and highly motivated post-doctoral researchers who wants to carry out cutting edge research in neuropsychiatric disease. The main focus is investigating cellular and molecular mechanisms of neuropsychiatric conditions such as schizophrenia, autism, depression and addiction. Cholinergic and monoaminergic systems are of particular interest to this project, with research involving electrophysiology, neurochemistry, molecular biology and cellular imaging ex vivo and in vivo in living animal models. The department is equipped with high-end research facilities for imaging (confocal scanning microscopy and epifluorescence microscopy), molecular and cellular biology laboratories, neurochemistry, in vivo electrophysiology and behavioural studies. National Institute of Mental Health is located in Klecany, 20 minutes from the Prague City Centre, one of the most beautiful and vibrant cities of Europe.


Duties & Responsibilities

The researcher will conduct a specified programme of research under the supervision of the Principal Investigator and the Head of the Department, Prof. Saak V. Ovsepian. Initial contract is for 2-years with the possibility of extension, depending on the performance.


  • A doctoral degree in biophysics, neuroimaging, neurobiology, bioengineering, or related disciplines
  • Experience in electrophysiology and/or cellular imaging, biochemistry in animal models
  • Independent thinking and ability to conduct experimental research, data processing, analysis and preparation of illustrations and graphs for scientific papers
  • Self-motivation, positive attitude and ability to work with interdisciplinary team of biochemists, neuroscientists, psychologists and medical doctors
  • Excellent command of English language and organizational skills
  • Interest in fundamental question of experimental neurobiology, functions and pathobiology

Initial salary compensation will depend on applicants’ qualification, publications and it is open to negotiation.
