Overview
The Institute of Chemical Process Fundamentals invites candidates to apply for a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship.
Host Researcher: Martin Jakubec, Ph.D.,
Head of the Research Group of Advanced Materials and Organic Synthesis
Research keywords: Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), Helicenes, Organic materials, Chiral functional materials, Nanographene
Our research focuses on the design, synthesis, and functionalization of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, particularly helicenes and phenacenes. The research integrates photochemical and synthetic methodologies with advanced characterization to understand structure–property relationships in organic materials. The group develops functional materials for applications in sensing, chiral recognition, and optoelectronic devices such as OLEDs and transistors. Strong emphasis is placed on interdisciplinary collaboration and on bridging fundamental organic chemistry with materials science and real-world applications.
Possible postdoctoral project focus: The proposed project will focus on the design, synthesis, and investigation of nanographene bilayer systems with tailored electronic and chiroptical properties. Special attention will be given to interlayer interactions, stacking effects, and their impact on charge transport and optical behavior. The project aims to explore these systems as next-generation functional materials for optoelectronics and sensing applications.
The Institute of Chemical Process Fundamentals of the CAS is a public research institution that specializes in chemical and environmental engineering, and materials chemistry. In addition to systematic fundamental research, the institute also engages in applied research and strives to support the next generation of scientists through training programs for Ph.D. students. Thanks to its interdisciplinary approach, the institute promotes technological innovations, addresses environmental and societal challenges, and encourages collaboration between academia, industry and, society.
