Viral methyltransferases (MTases) play an essential role in the capping of the newly synthesized viral RNA during the replication process. In flaviviruses, the cap usually consists of 7-N-methylated guanosine 5’- triphosphate and 2’-O-methyladenosine and the MTases are responsible for methylation of both guanosine nucleobase and adenosine sugar moiety. The project will be focused on the synthesis of novel inhibitors targeting these enzymes, which are highly conserved among numerous flaviviruses that are responsible for important human diseases such as tick-borne encephalitis, Dengue, West Nile and Yellow fevers.
