The Director of Central European Institute of Technology (CEITEC MU) opens a
PhD POSITION – COMPUTATIONAL Chemistry
CEITEC is a scientific centre in the fields of life sciences, advanced materials and technologies whose aim is to establish itself as a recognized centre for basic as well as applied research. CEITEC offers a state-of-the-art infrastructure and great conditions to employ excellent researchers.
Our institute values diversity and promotes an inclusive working environment with the aim to support the best scientists. CEITEC MU is a proud holder of the HR Excellence in Research Award by the European Commission (http://muni.ceitec.cz/en/hr-strategy-hrs4r/).
A PhD position in Computational Chemistry is available in the group of Radek Marek (webofscience.com/wos/author/record/D-6929-2012) at the Central European Institute of Technology (CEITEC), Brno, Czechia. The project focuses on developing field of paramagnetic NMR spectroscopy of heavy-element compounds (metallodrugs, molecular materials). To address questions related to the paramagnetic effects in NMR spectroscopy (electronic state, chemical bonding, effects of relativity) we use mainly advanced methods of density-functional theory at the relativistic two- and four-component levels. The DFT calculations are benchmarked with in-house experimental NMR data and interpreted using analytical tools based on canonical or localized MOs. In the frame of this fellowship, complementary non-DFT approaches and effects of environment and dynamics on the pNMR characteristics will also be explored. The fellowship requires admission to the PhD program at the Faculty of Science. The purpose of the fellowship is research training leading to the successful completion of a PhD degree.
