Non-academic position at the Department of Informatics, Faculty of Business and Economics
Research area: Natural Language Processing (NLP), Large Language Models (LLM)
The Faculty of Business and Economics at Mendel University in Brno is looking for a new member to join the research team of the Spatial Hub laboratory (Department of Informatics). The position is created as part of the Knowledge Transfer Partnership project funded by the Operational Program Technology and Applications for Competitiveness (OP TAK).
In collaboration with the design and engineering company AQUA PROCON s.r.o., we are developing an intelligent knowledge management system (KMS) that utilizes artificial intelligence, large language models (LLM), and the RAG method for efficient handling of extensive technical project documentation in the field of water management. The Spatial Hub laboratory has long been engaged in the development of cloud solutions, data processing, artificial intelligence, and user interface design.
The position is intended for graduates with a master’s or doctoral degree with limited work experience (up to 6 years from graduation), who want to work on a cutting-edge applied project under the guidance of experienced academic staff. The Knowledge Transfer Assistant works on the company’s premises and collaborates with its employees, gaining relevant knowledge from the company and then assisting employees in utilizing the newly created knowledge and skills.
What will your job entail?
- Designing and implementing a RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) pipeline
- Preparing algorithms for cleaning, segmentation (chunking), and vectorization of technical documentation
- Managing the vector database and optimizing semantic search
- Validating model accuracy and implementing methods to prevent hallucinations (data mining, NER)
- Close collaboration with academic staff and IT specialists from the partner company, transferring know-how from academia to practice
- Participating in regular project steering meetings and continuously documenting results
What do we expect from you?
- Completed higher education in a technical field (master’s or doctoral degree) in computer science, software engineering, computer engineering, cybernetics, artificial intelligence, data science, or a related field, with a master’s or doctoral education received within the last 6 years
- Advanced knowledge of TypeScript and Python, frontend frameworks, and backend technologies
- Experience in designing software architecture and server management
- Knowledge of artificial intelligence and natural language processing (NLP) and experience with frameworks for working with large language models (LLM)
- Experience with vector databases and SQL
- Good algorithmic thinking
- Active knowledge of English at the B2 level
What research experience do we require?
- Interest in academic writing and publishing activities
- Experience in data preparation, managing experimental sets, and evaluating results using commonly used metrics (precision, recall, F1, …)
- Knowledge of methods for converting text to vectors and NLP methods
What would we appreciate additionally?
- Practical experience with RAG method, embedding models, and semantic search
- Knowledge of data mining techniques and named entity recognition (NER)
- Experience in working with large textual data and documents
- Familiarity with cloud environments (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
- Knowledge of data visualization and working with PDF documents
- Experience in application deployment (Docker, Kubernetes, Linux)
- Familiarity with the university environment
- Interest in applied research and publishing activities
