The departments of the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology at Mendel University in Brno represent modern and dynamic workplaces with a long tradition and robust scientific background. Through its activities, the Department of Wood Science and Wood Technology engages in all areas related to the processing and use of wood, from traditional crafts to Industry 4.0. In developing new materials, methods, and technologies, we draw on the latest scientific results, but we are also not afraid to learn from history. We tackle significant projects in collaboration with foreign institutions and with Czech and multinational companies, primarily through projects such as TAČR, GAČR, Interreg Europe, Horizon Europe, and NAKI.

What will your job responsibilities be?

  • Planning, organizing, and overseeing all aspects of the department’s operations
  • Managing the budget and resources of the department
  • Managing academic and research staff and employees of the department, including their regular evaluation
  • Teaching and research activities in the field
  • Ensuring high quality of teaching and student supervision
  • Supporting research activities and obtaining grants for the department
  • Collaboration with other departments

What do we expect from you?

  • University degree – at least a Ph.D. in wood science, wooden structures, dendrochronology, or a related field; associate professor or professor status is an advantage
  • Excellent active knowledge of Czech, knowledge of English for teaching and publication purposes
  • Documented research activities in wood science, wooden structures, dendrochronology, or related fields, experience with publishing in journals with IF, and leading research projects at both national and international levels
  • Ability to navigate labor laws and economic rules for higher education management
  • Organizational, managerial, and communication skills
  • Attributes for teamwork as well as independent work
  • Personal and professional prerequisites for teaching activities
  • Willingness to work on personal development and professional growth
