The Department of Biochemistry at the Faculty of Science, Masaryk University, Kamenice 5, Brno, is engaged in basic and applied research into the metabolism of microorganisms, animals, and plants, and the development of (bio)analytical methods. Its educational activities are based on teaching a wide range of biochemical and molecular biology disciplines for several bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programs.

Job Description

  • Active participation in the management and development of research, development, and innovation, in particular by initiating and leading research groups
  • Securing financial support for research activities – preparing and submitting grant projects, establishing and implementing contractual cooperation with partners from the academic and application spheres
  • Publishing in renowned international journals and other forms of presentation of scientific work results
  • Active participation in the preparation and implementation of education for students in bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral study programs at the Faculty of Science
  • Active participation in domestic and international scientific conferences, presentation of research results, and representation of the institute at professional forums
  • Creation of study materials for teaching and development of study programs
  • Involvement in the popularization of science and dissemination of professional knowledge to the general public

Skills and Qualifications

The candidate should:

  • Have Ph.D. degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, or a related field
  • Have an excellent publication record or equivalent experience in applied research
  • Demonstrate the ability or potential to secure international research funding (e.g., ERC Starting/Consolidator/Advanced Grants, Horizon Europe, etc.)
  • Have at least two years of significant research experience outside of the Czech Republic
  • Be willing to participate in English-taught undergraduate and graduate programs
  • Be prepared to establish and lead an independent research team and contribute to both the research and educational missions of the Department and the Faculty
  • Show strong interest in student mentoring and interdisciplinary collaboration
  • Good knowledge of English (spoken and written)

This position is particularly suitable for researchers planning to apply for prestigious international funding schemes, such as those offered by the European Research Council (ERC), Horizon Europe, or equivalent programs.
