About the Research Group
The Environmental epidemiology ERA Chair research group integrates approaches from epidemiology, biostatistics, genetics, psychology, and other disciplines to study the effects of environmental, lifestyle, and social determinants on health of individuals and populations. The group participates in a range of international collaborative projects aimed at fostering multidisciplinary cooperation and contributing to evidence-based decision-making in public health and disease prevention. In addition, the group is actively involved in teaching undergraduate and graduate students. The group is coordinated by Prof. Hynek Pikhart and Prof. Martin Bobak.

Who We Are Looking For
The research team is seeking a highly-motivated postdoc/researcher to collaborate on ongoing projects focused on evaluating potential links between the exposome and health outcomes (e.g., incidence or mortality of cancer, cardiovascular, or respiratory diseases).

The post holder will focus on one or more of the following areas:

  • Cancer Epidemiology – investigating environmental, psychosocial, and social exposures in relation to common cancers, including ecological, cohort or multi-level analyses, using a range of data (e.g. registers, spatial data, biomarkers of health effects, phenotype, GWAS and other -omics data).
  • Epidemiology of Social Inequalities in Health and Aging – evaluating individual and spatial factors contributing to social inequalities and their impact on quality of life, physical and cognitive aging, and premature mortality from non-communicable diseases.
  • Environmental and Molecular Epidemiology – analysing complex environmental and genetic factors associated with cardiovascular outcomes, using phenotyping and genotyping data in longitudinal cohorts.

Job Description

  • Independent execution of scientific and research tasks within the areas described above.
  • Working with complex data, primarily from longitudinal cohort studies
  • Application of basic and advanced statistical methods (e.g., linear/logistic regression, Cox regression, potentially also multilevel analysis, structural equation modelling, mixed-effects modelling)
  • Prepare scientific papers documenting results and publish in peer-reviewed journals
  • Presenting findings at scientific conferences
  • Collaboration within project teams with partners in the Czech Republic and internationally

 

Skills and Qualifications

 

  • Completed PhD degree in epidemiology, environmental health, statistical science, biology, biochemistry, medical sciences, or related fields
  • Demonstrated expertise in statistical and epidemiological methods
  • Working experience with data analysis software, such as Stata, SPSS, R, or Mplus
  • Experience in spatial and temporal data analysis using GIS, including RStudio/Python or similar tools, is an advantage
  • Proficiency in English at least at B2 level
  • Practical experience in research activities, including the publication of research results
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to share knowledge
  • Responsibility and attention to detail
