SCIENTIST – polymer systems

The Advanced Materials Department focuses on materials synthesis, surface modification and advanced materials characterization. Our goal is to understand the relationships between the structure and properties of materials and to design new functional systems for specific applications. We are dedicated to research and development in the field of thin films, especially their deposition by plasma methods. We develop new types of layers for technically important applications in optics, sensors or biomedicine. We have extensive experience in surface treatments and functionalization of materials, both by chemical methods and plasma treatment. One of the key directions of our research is the development of detection systems based on functional nanostructures. In particular, we focus on functionalized microporous materials and sensing layers on optical fibers, useful, for example, for the detection of gases or biological substances. We have a long-standing interest in the synthesis and application of nanoparticle systems, using combinatorial chemistry, hydrothermal and solvothermal synthesis, as well as electrostatic wetting for the preparation of functional structures.

What will be your job description

  • Development of functionalized microporous materials as active elements of sensors for selective detection of gases, chemical or biological substances.
  • Synthesis and optimization of polymer solutions for electrostatic wetting.
  • Preparation of nanofibers by electrostatic wetting technologies.
  • Characterisation of the morphology of nanomaterials using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and optical microscopy.
  • Preparation and implementation of scientific research projects in the field of materials and application-oriented studies.
