to fill research position:
Researcher – PhD Student
Place of work: Hradec Králové, Czech Republic
We are seeking a highly motivated and talented PhD candidate to join our research group focused on novel synthetic methodologies and medicinal chemistry for drug discovery. This PhD project will specifically involve the synthesis of novel benzoquinone ansamycin derivatives for use in key medicinal chemistry applications such as cancer and neurodegenerative conditions.
The successful candidate will gain hands-on experience in advanced synthetic ad purification techniques, modern analytical methods (NMR, MS, IR, HPLC), and problem-solving in a dynamic and collaborative research environment. As part of our international collaborations, travel for conferences and research exchange visits is anticipated within the project.
Responsibilities:
- Design and execute single/multi-step organic syntheses.
- Characterise synthesised compounds using a range of analytical techniques.
- Analyse and interpret experimental data.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records and present research findings.
- Contribute to scientific publications and conference presentations.
- Actively participate in group meetings and departmental seminars.
- Assist in the supervision and training of junior students.
- Assist in the delivery of lab practicals, and develop teaching experience.
- Immediate escalation of any identified risks to a superior position.
Essential Criteria:
- Education: A Master’s degree (Mgr. or Ing. equivalent) or an excellent Bachelor’s degree (with strong research experience) in Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Chemical Sciences, or a closely related field.
- Academic Excellence: A strong academic record demonstrating proficiency in organic chemistry principles.
- Practical Experience: Demonstrated hands-on experience in a synthetic organic chemistry laboratory, including proficiency with standard reaction setups, purification techniques (column chromatography, recrystallisation), and basic analytical methods.
- Language Skills: Excellent command of English (both written and oral) for scientific communication.
- Motivation & Independence: High level of motivation, ability to work independently, and a strong problem-solving aptitude.
- Teamwork: Ability to work effectively as part of a research team.Excellent organisational and communication skills.High level of work commitment.
- Strong willingness to learn new things continuously.
Desirable Criteria:
- Experience with air-sensitive chemistry, metal-catalysed reactions and organometallics.Familiarity with advanced analytical techniques (e.g., advanced NMR experiments, X-ray crystallography, mass spectrometry interpretation).
- Demonstrated experience in scientific writing (e.g., Bachelor’s/Master’s thesis, project reports, contributions to publications).
- Experience with literature searching databases (e.g., SciFinder, Reaxys).Basic knowledge of medicinal chemistry.
- Prior experience presenting research findings at seminars or conferences.
- Prior experience with supervising chemistry experiments.Prior experience of teaching.

The estimated monthly wage: 26 000 CZK, possibility of increasing in case of successful grant capture
The start of work: 1 October 2025 or by agreement (no later than January 2026)
Type of employment contract: for 1 year, with the expectation that the contract will be extended.
