We are looking for a new colleague who wants to join the research and team management team in our research centre in Buštěhrad. The University Centre for Energy Efficient Buildings brings together top academics from the Czech Technical University in Prague to work together on sustainable construction. The centre was established in 2013 to connect the university with industry and focuses on commercialising research results and transferring technology into practical applications.

We are looking for a new colleague to join our Urban Ecohydrology team at the UCEEB research centre in Buštěhrad, Czech Republic. The team conducts both applied and fundamental research in blue-green infrastructure and nature-based solutions for stormwater and wastewater management, with a particular focus on the hydrological behaviour of urban soils and substrates. Our work combines monitoring, experimental research, data-driven assessment, and modelling.

We are seeking a motivated researcher with a background in water management, hydrology, environmental engineering, or a related field, who is able to independently lead assigned parts of research projects, develop methodologies, coordinate experimental and analytical tasks, and contribute to high-quality scientific and project outputs, especially peer-reviewed publications.

Main responsibilities:

  • Lead and implement work packages within national and international research projects

  • Coordinate expert activities in projects carried out at UCEEB, including supervision of junior researchers and students

  • Design, prepare, conduct, and evaluate experiments at laboratory and field scale

  • Process, analyse, and interpret data for scientific and project-related outputs

  • Contribute to the development of new methodological and technical approaches

  • Prepare expert reports, project deliverables, and scientific publications

  • Communicate with national and international project partners and coordinate activities across UCEEB teams and CTU units

  • Contribute to the development of new research topics and project proposals

  • Combine fieldwork, laboratory work, and desk-based analytical work

Requirements – we expect:

  • Ph.D. degree in hydraulic engineering and water management, environmental engineering, biology, chemistry, geology, or a related natural science field

  • Ability to independently take responsibility for an assigned part of a project and manage it in a systematic way

  • Experience in designing and conducting experiments and evaluating data

  • Analytical data-processing skills using Matlab, R, Python, or similar tools

  • Good written and spoken English sufficient for communication within international projects and for preparing scientific texts

  • Independence, reliability, and strong planning and organisational skills, with the ability to bring tasks to completion

  • Willingness to share know-how, collaborate with colleagues, and contribute to the effective functioning of the team and UCEEB as a whole

  • Ability to work in an innovative way and to navigate new or less structured research tasks, while adopting and seeking new approaches

  • Publication record

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience in research or professional practice related to urban water management, blue-green infrastructure, soil and substrate systems, infiltration, retention, biofiltration, or related topics.

  • Experience in leading research projects or work packages.

  • Experience with modelling subsurface flow, for example using HYDRUS or similar tools.

  • Experience in international research projects.

  • Interest in using digital tools and AI to support research and project work.

  • Category B driving licence.
