We are looking for a new colleague specializing in forest ecosystems, forest ecology, primary production, resistance and resilience of forest tree species.
Project Researcher II for the Department of Forest Ecology
The staff of the Department of Forest Ecology are involved in teaching curricula focused on knowledge of the structure and functioning of forest ecosystems and understanding the principles of systems analysis in assessing the impacts of a changing environment on forests. Their research focuses on the study of the structure, production, processes and stability of ecosystems, with an emphasis on sustainable management and biodiversity conservation.
What will be your workload?
- evaluation of primary production in floodplain forests, their resistence and resilience
- evaluation of managemental measures and its effect on primary production
- 20 % of workload will be related with another type of forest ecosystem
- working in labs, office and field (forest ecosystems)
- publishing in original scientific journals (Scopus, WoS)
- participating in the preparation of scientific projects (NAZV, TAČR, COST…)
- reviewing of student final theses as needed
What do we require from you?
- a university degree (master’s degree) in forestry, landscape science or ecology
- knowledge of English, both written and verbal, ability to publish in English
- experience of programming in R-studio (Treeclim, dendroTools, dendRolAB,rTG, pointRes)
- knowledge of Python, ImageJ, Roxas
- manual dexterity
- independence
- driving license for cars
- ability to work with a map and experience with pointing in the forest (GPS, FieldMap…)
What research experience do we require?
- minimum 5 years of experience in the field
- knowledge of the entire process of scientific work from design planning, sampling, processing and evaluation to final presentation
What else do we appreciate?
- previous involvement in projects with a similar theme
- experience in international internships, conferences and publication of scientific results on the topic

Expected start: September 2023, a fixed-term employment contract for 3 years
Job status: 0,6 (24 hours per week)
Place of work: Brno and field trips to forest ecosystems in the Czech Republic
