Non Academic Staff Member for the Department of Animal Nutrition and Forage Production
Reseach field: research on animal nutrition and physiological responses, Focus on; analysis of blood biochemical parameters in the context of nutritional status and metabolic adaptation of animals, quantitative determination of volatile fatty acids using isotachophoretic analysis, chemical and nutritional analysis of essential nutrients in feed samples and biological matrices, sub-research activities may also include collaboration on experimental experiments with animals, sample processing, data interpretation and preparation of outputs for scientific publications
We are a modern university, teaching and researching agriculture, forestry, economic and technical disciplines in regional and international contexts. The Department of animal nutrition and forage production provides teaching and scientific activities in the field of nutrition of livestock and other animals – including its influence on the composition and quality of animal products; animal health and metabolism; technology of production, preservation, storage and treatment of feed; feed consultancy; animal nutrition in organic agriculture and in the field of forage and grass production. The department provides teaching in Czech and English at all levels (bachelor, master and doctoral) of the Faculty of Agronomy and selected subjects also at other faculties of the University. The department also carries out laboratory and experimental activities related to animal nutrition and health.
What will be your job role?
- conducting research experiments in the field of animal nutrition and evaluation of their metabolic response
- conducting laboratory analyses of biochemical parameters of livestock blood
- determining the profile of volatile fatty acids
- analysing essential nutrients (e.g. preparation of samples for analysis and quality control of results
- interpretation and statistical processing of measured data
- cooperation in the design and implementation of experiments, including sampling and processing of samples
- co-authorship of scientific articles and project outputs
- participation in national and international research projects
What are our requirements?
- completed master’s degree in animal nutrition, zootechnics, biology, chemistry or related fields, ongoing doctoral studies in a relevant field an advantage
- excellent knowledge of the Czech language (C1) and advanced knowledge of the English language (B2)
- manual dexterity and diligence in laboratory work, knowledge of the principles of laboratory methods (especially chemical and biochemical analyses), ability to work with laboratory equipment (e.g. Biochemical blood analyser, isotachophoresis, drying oven, muffle furnace, Kjeldahl, Soxhlet, etc.)
- orientation in statistical data processing (e.g. Excel, Statistica, R, etc.)
- ability to search, understand and work with scientific literature, including English language sources
- active participation in research projects
- good communication and organisational skills
Required research experience:
- practical experience with laboratory methods used in animal nutrition and physiological research
- previous experience working with biological material (e.g. blood, digestate, feed), including sample collection and preparation
- experience with analysis of biochemical parameters of blood and/or electrophoretic methods (e.g. isotachophoresis) an advantage
orientation in the field of livestock nutrition and metabolism - ability to think independently and in a team in research, data processing and interpretation
- experience in the preparation of professional or scientific outputs (e.g. impactful scientific publications, posters, presentations)
- previous involvement in research projects an advantage (e.g. participation in grants, experiments, field data collection, etc.)
