Postdoctoral researcher in horizontal mitochondrial transfer

in the Laboratory of Molecular Therapy, located at the Institute of Biotechnology in BIOCEV campus. We are a very active research laboratory with several projects we focus on, with one on horizontal mitochondrial transfer for which we are seeking a dedicated experienced postdoctoral fellow.

Our laboratory is a leader in the area of horizontal mitochondrial transfer research, with seminal publications in a range of journals, including Cell Metabolism, Nature Metabolism, Cancer Cell and Cancer Research, to name a few. Job description:

You will study the mechanism regulating horizontal mitochondrial transfer between cancer and stromal cells. You will be in charge of your research project but will also need to act as a part of the broader team. You will contribute to writing of manuscripts, reports and proposals and will present the project results at (inter-) national meetings. It is also expected that you will write grant application(s) later during your postdoctoral position.

Requirements:

  • PhD in molecular/cell biology or related areas
  • Strong interest and hands-on experience in basic research
  • Experience in mitochondria-related research, in particular in mitochondrial movement and fate in various contexts. Experience in neuronal research is an advantage.
  • Excellent communication skills and teamwork, and ability to plan and work independently
  • English, written and spoken, advanced level or native speaker, which is a great advantage.

Institute and workplace location: The Institute of Biotechnology (IBT, ibt.cas.cz) is a top-class multi-disciplinary research center in the Czech Republic with expertise in cancer and developmental biology, metabolism, gene expression and structural biology & protein engineering. IBT is located at the BIOCEV center of excellence (biocev.eu) operated by the Czech Academy of Sciences and Charles University. BIOCEV brings together >500 international scientists and students in >50 research groups. The institute and BIOCEV partners run excellent core facilities (gene core, chemical synthesis, structural and biophysical analysis, a state-of-the-art animal clinic, flow cytometry & imaging and omics core facilities).

IBT/BIOCEV Center is in Vestec, located at the outskirts of Prague, ~30 minutes from the city center by public transport.
