In accordance with the The Competitive Hiring Process Code of Charles University, the Dean of the Faculty of Science of Charles University announces a competitive hiring process with a deadline for applications November 29, 2025

We invite applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher to join an ERC-funded project UNalphabeting the Central Dogma of Life, LIFE-19 (ERC-2024-COG, 101170416) at the Faculty of Science, Charles University (Prague, Czech Republic). The successful candidate will contribute to a highly interdisciplinary research effort aimed at re-designing a minimal bacterial cell towards a proteome based on 19 amino acids, addressing some of the most fundamental questions about the origin and evolution of the Central Dogma of Biology. This project explores how the genetic code and proteome composition can be systematically re-engineered to probe the boundaries of life’s biochemical systems. The work combines genome engineering, synthetic biology, protein design, and systems-level bioinformatics, with the goal of understanding and reshaping the molecular foundations of life as we know it. Responsibilities: Conduct experimental research in genome engineering, synthetic biology, and protein biochemistry. Design and implement high-throughput assays and automated workflows for cellular and molecular analyses. Perform bioinformatic and systems-level analyses of engineered strains and proteomes (optional) Collaborate within a larger interdisciplinary team of molecular biologists, chemists, and computational scientists. Mentor junior researchers and students involved in the project. We offer: A stimulating and collaborative research environment within the Faculty of Science, Charles University. Access to state-of-the-art molecular biology, bioinformatics, and automation facilities. Competitive salary and benefits according to Czech and EU academic standards. Opportunity to develop an independent research profile within a prestigious ERC-funded project. Living and working in downtown Prague, one of Europe’s most vibrant scientific and cultural cities. We require: Contact information for 3 references (Attachement Nr. 1)
