Overview

The Institute of Experimental Medicine of the CAS (IEM CAS) is looking for a suitable candidate for the position of Postdoctoral Researcher for the Department of Genome Biology.

Background

We investigate the mechanisms underpinning DNA damage and cancerogenesis, with a focus on:

  • Replication Stress & Genome Instability: How oxidative stress in cancer cells leads to the formation of genotoxic R-loops and conflicts between transcription and replication complexes (TRCs).
  • The omlecular mechanisms of prevention, signaling, and resolution of replication stress associated with TRCs.
  • Exploiting Stress Tolerance: Studying replication stress tolerance pathways to find ways to increase cancer therapy effectiveness.

We offer

  • The position is funded by a prestigious 5-year Junior Star Grant from the Czech Science Foundation.
  • A full-time, fixed-term employment contract for 2 years, with possible extension.
  • Attractive salary, employment benefits, and 5 weeks of vacation per year + 5 sick days.
  • A collaborative scientific environment supported by state-of-the-art facilities.
  • Opportunities for training and specialised courses to expand a skillset.
  • Support to pursue independent funding.

Our requirements

  • A PhD in molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, or a related field.
  • Proactive drive, collaborative spirit, a problem-solving mindset.
  • Willingness to contribute to the foundational setup of the lab.
  • Proficient in both written and spoken English.

Not required but beneficial

  • Expertise in the field of DNA repair, replication, or transcription of DNA.
  • Experience with advanced technologies, including light microscopy, CRISPR, omics approaches (Chip-seq, proteomics), or bioinformatics.
