The Faculty of Law, Masaryk University ranks among top institutions in the field of juridical science and education. It is one of the most prestigious research and educational institutions in the field of law in the Czech Republic as evidenced not only by the greatest interest of applicants within the whole country, but also by many annual surveys of independent journalistic newspapers among the field experts. The Faculty of Law, Masaryk University is seeking qualified candidate from abroad for postdoctoral position in the field of law and theoretical legal sciences. The Faculty has a strong interest in attracting quality applications from abroad.

The successful candidate should:

  • be a researcher who has received a PhD or its equivalent within the last 7 years
  • be a researcher who has worked at least two whole years in the last three, outside the territory of the Czech Republic, in the field of research with a working time of at least 0.5 full-time equivalent, or who has been PhD student (or equivalent) abroad
  • have a publishing record – in the last three years at least two publication outputs registered in the Thomson Reuters Web of Science, Scopus or ERIH PLUS databases and at the same time publications such as “articles”, “books”, “book chapters”, “letters” and “reviews”.

Filed-specific criteria:

  • have a research experience in the field of law and theoretical legal sciences
  • have published at least one publication as the first author
  • have done presentations at a significant international conference related to the applicant’s research field
  • have an experience with international research projects in the position of principal investigator or co-investigator (this could be an advantage)
  • have an excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with multiple teams
  • have an excellent command of written English
  • have the ability to read scientific texts in German or French (this could be an advantage)

The application should include:

  • a CV including a summary of education and research experience, involvement in research grants, etc.
  • a summary of publication activity with indication of outputs where the applicant is the first author
  • a scanned copy of the PhD diploma or an official letter certifying submission of a doctoral thesis for thesis defence and the planned defence date
  • a motivation letter
  • at least two reference letters of a prominent representatives in the applicant’s research area
  • a consent of member of the faculty with mentoring the applicant at the time of the project realization (email form is sufficient)
  • a 24-month research plan, including an approximate budget and faculty benefits (will only be required for candidates who qualify for the second round of the selection procedure)

The successful candidate will receive a gross salary of amount 63 000 CZK (approx. 2 500 €) per month, full insurance and benefits package. Family allowances are possible. In addition the successful candidate will receive a budget for covering his/her project realization expenditures.


Anticipated start date: This position is available from the October 1, 2020 and the successful candidate can take up the position anytime from this date onwards, but no later than by the December 15, 2020 (in exceptional situations by mutual agreement later employment commencement possible).
