Job Description:

The Institute of Soil Biology (ISB) within the Biology Centre of the Czech Academy of Sciences is looking for motivated fungal biologist/ecologist with background in molecular biology and bioinformatics. ISB performs mainly fundamental, but also applied, research in soil biology, biochemistry, and ecology.

The postdoctoral position is opened for 2 years with the possibility of further extension. You will conduct research in the field of soil mycology focused either on basic or applied tasks of contemporary soil microbiology. You will have an opportunity to join running projects dealing with topics such as fungal lipid biomarkers, fungi-plant interactions, community development or soil carbon stock and dynamics. Part of the position will be the maintenance and development of culture collection of soil micromycetes. You would have a possibility to collaborate with laboratories of soil microbiology, zoology, and soil organic matter, as well as with anaerobic and IRMS (Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometry) laboratory.

Min. education level: PhD
Field of education: Microbiology, general biology, ecology or environmental science
Languages: Excellent English

Other requirements:
Have you obtained a PhD. degree or equivalent in microbiology, general biology, ecology or environmental science?
Do you have research experience in soil microbiology – soil mycology?
Are you familiar with molecular techniques and basic bioinformatics workflows (especially NGS data analyses)?
Do you have background in biostatistics (descriptive and multivariate analyses, linear regression models, etc.)?
Do you have experience with isolation, cultivation, and preservation techniques?
Are you interested in interdisciplinary research?
