Institute of Experimental Medicine of the Czech Academy of Sciences offers a PhD position in the BIOCEV 

Project: MicroRNA in central nervous system injury: potential roles and therapeutic implications

Recent studies demonstrate, that microRNAs (miRNAs) – short non-coding RNAs that modulate protein expression levels by antagonizing mRNA – are dysregulated following different types of CNS injuries. To understand the mechanisms underlying gene alterations following spinal cord injury and ischemic stroke, we will examine temporal expression of miRNAs and mRNAs in the nervous tissue. The most promising miRNA-mRNA regulatory networks will be validated in vitro and in vivo using combination of tools for RNA, protein and functional analysis to verify true biological relevance of our findings. Our study will provide important insights into the role of specific miRNAs during nervous tissue repair and regeneration and may contribute to the improvement of current therapeutic strategies.

The successful applicant should have an education in biochemistry, biology or medicine. Experience with molecular biology, biochemistry, animal work and surgery, is advantageous. The successful applicant will also have excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills and be highly-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of the team.

Terms and place of employment
This position is available at the Biotechnology and Biomedicine centrum BIOCEV. We offer a friendly, motivating environment at modern science building, a workout of 0.5 – 0.7, an employment contract for three years with the possibility of extension, 5 weeks of vacation, lunch allowance. The position is available immediately.
