Overview
The Institute of Chemical Process Fundamentals invites candidates to apply for a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship.
Host Researcher and Head of Research Group : Sandra Orvalho, Ph.D.
Research keywords: Multiphase flow; bubble, drop; surfactant; mass transfer, wake dynamics
The Multiphase Reactors Research Group focuses on fundamental transport phenomena in multiphase systems, combining advanced experiments, theoretical modelling, and numerical simulations. Its research aims to refine existing models and develop new approaches for accurately describing complex multiphase processes. The group investigates transport mechanisms across multiple spatial and temporal scales, including bubbly, granular, and suspension flows. A key objective is to link microscale interactions between bubbles, droplets, and particles with the macroscopic behavior of the system through a multiscale framework. Additionally, the group studies interfacial properties and how additives, ions, surfactants, and nanoparticles influence both individual dynamics and overall flow characteristics.
Possible postdoctoral project focus:
The project will explore bubble and droplet dynamics in surfactant-laden and viscous liquids, with the aim of elucidating wake interactions, mass transfer processes, and microscale flow behavior. It will employ advanced experimental techniques, while offering the candidate flexibility to refine existing methods or introduce novel approaches as needed. This research will strengthen the host laboratory’s capabilities and equip the fellow with transferable expertise, thereby enhancing their independent research profile and long-term career prospects.
The Institute of Chemical Process Fundamentals of the CAS is a public research institution that specializes in chemical and environmental engineering, and materials chemistry. In addition to systematic fundamental research, the institute also engages in applied research and strives to support the next generation of scientists through training programs for PhD students. Thanks to its interdisciplinary approach, the institute promotes technological innovations, addresses environmental and societal challenges, and encourages collaboration between academia, industry and, society.
