Faculty of Science MU, a holder of the HR Excellence in Research Award by the European Commission, is a research-oriented faculty, offering university education (Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral degree programs) closely linked to both primary and applied research and high school teaching of the following sciences: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Earth sciences. National Centre for Biomolecular Research at the Faculty of Science MU is focused on the study of bio(macro)molecules at the atomic level using experimental and computational methods. Equipment for nuclear magnetic resonance, crystallography, study of biomolecular interactions, genomics and proteomics is available. The department has access to powerful computational capacities used for computational chemistry, bioinformatics and chemoinformatics. The department also provides teaching and training of bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral students in study programs focused on bioinformatics, biomolecular chemistry, experimental biology of plants, genomics and proteomics, and life sciences.

Job Description

Key Duties:

  • Teaching computer science and mathematics courses
  • Creating study materials in Czech and English languages
  • Contribution to development of study programs, promotion, and popularization of the NCBR department
  • Bachelor and Diploma theses supervision
  • Participation in research activities in the field of structural bioinformatics
  • Active participation in scientific conferences, meetings, and presentation of research results

Skills and Qualifications

The applicant must have:

  • Ph.D. degree in Mathematics, Computer science, or Statistics
  • Teaching experience: at least 5 years of active teaching in Computer science, Mathematics, Statistics or related fields
  • Experience in teaching lectures of mathematics and statistics for students in non-mathematical fields
  • Ability to create a new course, including the preparation of study materials for both on-site and on-line learning
  • Ability to use modern teaching technologies, e.g., learning management systems (LMS), interactive teaching support software, instructional videos, etc.
  • Good communication skills (oral and written) in English and Czech – ability to teach a lecture in Czech and English language
  • Ability to apply statistical knowledge in practice: at least 5 relevant publications in international impact journals, total number of citations at least 50
  • Excellent knowledge of programming in the “R language”, including its modern extensions, e.g., Sweave,
    R Markdown, Shiny, ggplot, etc.
  • Ability to typeset documents in LaTeX is an advantage
  • Professional experience in the field of statistics outside the academic environment is an advantage
  • Communication skills, ability to motivate students and enhance interest in the field, patience, empathy
