Specification:

The Faculty of Science, Charles University (Prague, Czechia) invites applications for a Post-doctoral position in the Geography Section for the project “International mobility of research, technical and administrative staff at the Charles University” reg. n. CZ.02.2.69/0.0/0.0/18_053/0016976.

The position is open for researchers with experience in areas – Physical Geography: (1) Hydrology: Response of mid-latitude montane catchments to climate change; or (2) Forest-climate interactions.

(1) Response of mid-latitude montane catchments to climate change
Our research is focused on a catchment scale, dealing with flood and drought hydrology, snow hydrology, hydromorphology, water quality as well as with limnology (http://hydro.natur.cuni.cz/).
The announced position aims at modeling changes in the hydrological regime of mid-latitude montane catchments in response to climate change and landscape disturbance. The research will employ data from long-term hydrometeorological observations, and from the own experimental automated sensor network. The research topic should cover one of the following aspects of hydrological change: (i) Hydrological response of the montane catchments experiencing climate change and forest disturbance to the floods and droughts, (ii) Changes in mountain catchment storage in response to climate change, with a focus on the modeling of the snowpack dynamics in relation to climate change, the memory effect of the catchments, water balance, and groundwater storage. (iii) Nature-based solutions for mitigation of hydrological extremes, with a focus on the effects of land and stream restorations on the mitigation of droughts and floods.

(2) Forest-climate interactions
The announced position will focus on response of forests to climate change using tree rings as a data source at inter-annual or intra-annual time scales. Emphasis on cold-limited forests is welcomed but not necessary. For the recently solved research topics of Dendroecology working group, please consult  https://web.natur.cuni.cz/physgeo/dendro/.
