Charles University, Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové and Faculty of Medicine in Hradec Králové, represented by the Deans of the Faculties, hereby announces a competitive hiring procedure for the position:
Head/Responsible Person of the BSL‑3 Laboratory
A BSL‑3 (Biosafety Level 3) laboratory is a type of biological laboratory with an enhanced level of technical safety (so‑called UTZ 3), providing facilities for working with infectious agents or their products (risk biological agents and toxins, RAT) that are capable of causing serious or life‑threatening diseases.
Requirements:
- Completed higher education in pharmacy, microbiology, biochemistry or related field
- Experience in leading and managing laboratory operations at least at the BSL‑2 level is an advantage
- Basic knowledge of regulations related to biological safety, and a willingness to pursue continuous education in this area
- Familiarity with technical systems used in laboratory operations or a willingness to learn in this area
- Ability and experience in professional supervision is an advantage
- Proven experience in effective collaboration on scientific‑research projects, in preparing grant applications, and in designing and conducting experiments for research activities is an advantage

- Thoroughness and a strong sense of responsibility
- Organizational and communication skills
- Ability to make decisions under pressure and resolve operational and technical issues
Responsibilities:
- Ensuring the professional and safe operation of the laboratory in compliance with applicable legislation, including Act No. 281/2002 Coll., as amended, Decree No. 474/2002 Coll., as amended, and the ČSN EN 12128 standard. Ensuring laboratory operation in accordance with any additional requirements set by the internal regulations of the faculty or university, as well as by the State Institute for Chemical, Nuclear and Biological Protection or the Regional Public Health AuthorityCollaboration with academic staff, PhD students, and partners from the applied sector.
- Responsibility for implementing, regularly updating, and monitoring internal procedures and maintaining documentation (operating rules, emergency/crisis plans, safety protocols, agent records, waste management, etc.).
- Providing professional introductory training and guidance, including supervision of research staff and PhD students. Consulting their research plans and approving work procedures.
- Coordinating, professionally assessing, and approving research activities carried out in cooperation with industry partners or collaborating institutions.
- Ensuring the technical and operational support of the laboratory, including regular maintenance and inspection of instruments/equipment. Organizing the safe handling and disposal of biological waste in compliance with applicable legislation.
- Cooperating with faculty research groups, supporting the preparation of grant applications, and designing and conducting experiments for research activities associated with research projects.
- Planning and optimizing operational costs, including proposing renewal and development of laboratory equipment.

Salary conditions according to the valid Internal Wage Regulations of Charles University with the prospect of an increase in the form of a personal evaluation after the expiration probation period and any other incentive rewards.
The estimated monthly wage: 39.000 CZK – 44.000 CZK (for a 1,0 FTE)
