About the Research Group
The GAMOS (https://gamoschem.com/) group is currently active in the areas of photochemical synthesis, transformation and study of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, in particular derivatives of [n]helicenes and [n]phenacenes, as well as their applications (e.g. thin films, biomolecular sensing, enantiodiscriminative detection of small chiral molecules, or the development of chiral polymeric materials). The group also collaborates with universities and industrial partners and has experience with commercialization of research results
Position Objective
We are seeking a high-performing and visionary researcher who will take over the leadership of the Group and ensure its further development in key areas of organic synthesis, new (chiral) functional materials, and translation into applications. We expect the new group leader to naturally build upon the existing research program while simultaneously opening a new original scientific direction or application axis with international potential.
Key Responsibilities
- Scientific Leadership of the Group
– Formulate the Group’s scientific strategy (3–5 years) with a focus on the development of the current research theme.
– Coordinate and motivate the team (researchers, postdocs, PhD students, technical staff) to achieve excellent results.
– Ensure high quality of scientific outputs (publications, patents, projects) and their visibility in an international context.
– Systematically strengthen the international profile of the group – active participation in European funding schemes (e.g. ERC, Horizon Europe), engagement in strategic international consortia, and development of excellent foreign partnerships. - Grant Acquisition and Financial Management
– Actively identify and lead national and international grant opportunities, partnerships with industry, and collaborations with universities and companies.
– Participate in highly competitive international projects (e.g. ERC, Horizon Europe) and thereby contribute to the long-term scientific and financial sustainability of the Group.
– Manage the Group’s budget and plan investments in instrumentation, infrastructure, and experimental methods. - Development of New Research Directions
– Propose and implement the Group’s original strategic direction.
– Support commercialization and technology transfer – develop partnerships with industry and create applicable materials/products. - Education and Mentorship
– Support the education of students (BSc, MSc, PhD), mentor early-career researchers, and cultivate a team culture of innovation and open science.
– Collaborate with external partners – universities, research institutes, industry. - Organizational and Representative Role
– Represent the Group externally (conferences, professional meetings, public outreach, media appearances).
– Ensure communication between the Group, the Department, and the Institute’s leadership.
Candidate Requirements
- University degree (Ph.D.) in organic chemistry, materials chemistry, or a related field.
- Demonstrated research excellence.
- Ability in strategic planning and project management.
- Active participation in grant projects (national/international); experience with industrial collaboration or research commercialization is an advantage.
- Ability to propose and develop new original research directions in the field of advanced materials and organic synthesis.
- Ambition to position the Group internationally and participate in excellent European research projects.
- Excellent communication skills in Czech and English; ability to represent the Group externally.
