Academic position at the newly established Design Lab at MENDELU, Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology

Research area: Furniture Design

We are a modern university, teaching and researching agriculture, forestry, economic and technical disciplines in regional and international contexts. Since 2018, we have been the holder of the HR Excellence in Research Award for improving employee care, awarded to us as the first Czech university by the European Commission.

We are looking for an experienced and visionary individual to bring innovative thinking and play a key role in the development of the newly established MENDELU Design Lab. The lab currently consists of 3 staff members who develop collaborations with the private sector, participate in project implementation, PR and commercial activities such as curating exhibitions.

What will you do?

  • supervise the workplace
  • develop a concept for the development and management of the workplace and advocate its implementation
  • manage the budget and resources of the workplace
  • be responsible for the efficient use of allocated financial resources and proper management of assets
  • lead, motivate and inspire a team of academic, research and administrative staff tp achieve excellent results
  • support research activities and the acquisition of funding and grants for the workplace
  • collaborate with departments within the faculty

What are our requirements?

  • completed university education at the level of at least a PhD.
  • publication activity in the field of furniture design
  • excellent knowledge of both Czech and English language, ability to publish in English
  • ability to understand labour law and economic rules of higher education
  • organisational, management and communication skills
  • ability to work in a team and independently
  • personal and professional qualities for leading a workplace
  • management and leadership experience in the public or commercial sector

Job status: 0,1 (4 hours per week)

Expected start: May 2024

Employment contract: temporary for three years
