The Faculty of Law at Masaryk University is one of four public law faculties in the Czech Republic. The current Faculty of Law of Masaryk University can be characterized as a modern, dynamic faculty where the focus is on teaching activities together with scientific research. The Department of the History of State and Law is a department of the Faculty of Law of MU, which carries out educational and scientific research activities in the field of legal history and Roman law. In the field of teaching, it mainly provides teaching of compulsory courses in Czech and Czechoslovak Legal History of the Modern Era, General Legal History and Roman Law, as well as compulsory elective courses in these fields. In the field of scientific research, the department focuses its attention primarily on the issues of modern Czech legal history in its entirety, specifically on the period of the First Czechoslovak Republic, the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia and the period of socialism and the functioning of law in totalitarian regimes, as well as on the history of legal science. The scientific research at the department also includes research on some institutes of Roman law and their reception in modern legal development.

Your job will include:

  • responsibility for the teaching and research activities of the department and the achievement of the required outputs and results,
  • personnel management of the department (motivation, evaluation, and career development of employees),
  • responsibility for the management of the funds entrusted to them,
  • close cooperation with the faculty management,
  • own pedagogical (including preparation of study and teaching materials), scientific research and publication activities.

We require:

  • Master’s degree in Law,
  • academic or scientific rank of professor, associate professor or Ph.D. (if habilitation proceedings have been initiated),
  • at least 10 years of experience in the field,
  • active pedagogical and scientific activity and readiness to guarantee professional subjects taught at the department,
  • personal and professional prerequisites for leading the department,
  • ability to teach and publish in Czech and English, other language skills are an advantage,
  • persons born after 1 December 1971 do not have to prove that they meet the requirements of Act No. 451/1991 Coll. as amended,
  • information on the employee’s future employment relationship within the meaning of §70 of Act No. 111/1998 Coll. on Universities, as amended,
  • moral integrity.

  • overview of scientific and publishing activity, indicating the three most important scientific publications; information on the citation index, publications in an impacted foreign periodical etc.,
  • photocopies of evidence of qualification.
