The Departments of the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology at Mendel University in Brno represent modern and dynamic workplaces with a long tradition and strong scientific background. The Department of Forest Protection and Wildlife Management is a modern workplace focused on research and teaching activities in the fields of forest protection, stress ecology, phytopathology, entomology, game management, applied zoology, and animal ecology. The department builds on many years of research tradition established by prominent figures in forest protection and game management who have worked at the department, such as Prof. Antonín Dyk, Prof. Oktavián Farský, and Prof. Josef Hromas. As a research workplace, the department is a holder of many grant projects focused on both basic and applied research. For research and educational needs, it is equipped with the most modern technologies usable in the field as well as in laboratories, and it benefits from cooperation with top researchers, scientists, educators, and practitioners both domestically and internationally.

What will your job responsibilities be?

  • Planning, organizing, and overseeing all aspects of the department’s activities
  • Managing the department’s budget and resources
  • Supervising academic and research staff, including their regular evaluation
  • Conducting educational and research activities in the field
  • Ensuring high quality of teaching and mentoring students
  • Supporting research activities and obtaining grants for the department
  • Collaborating with other departments

What do we expect from you?

  • Higher education – at least a Ph.D. in forest protection, game management, zoology, forest ecology, forestry, or a related field; a docent or professor title is an advantage
  • Excellent active knowledge of Czech, and knowledge of English for teaching and publication purposes
  • Verifiable research activities in the field of forest protection, game management, zoology, forest ecology, forestry, or related fields, experience with publishing in journals with impact factors and leading research projects at national and international levels
  • Ability to navigate labor law regulations and economic management rules in higher education
  • Organizational, managerial, and communication skills
  • Capability for both teamwork and independent work
  • Personal and professional prerequisites for teaching activities
  • Desire to work on one’s further personal development and professional growth
