The Extreme Light Infrastructure ERIC (ELI ERIC) is the world’s largest and most advanced high-power laser research infrastructure. As a unique international user facility, ELI ERIC provides access to cutting-edge high-power, high-repetition-rate laser systems for pioneering scientific research and technological innovation across multiple disciplines.
ELI ERIC operates as a single multi-site organization with two complementary facilities:
- ELI Beamlines in Dolní Břežany, Czech Republic
- ELI ALPS in Szeged, Hungary
The ELI Beamlines Facility is home to four state-of-the-art high-power femtosecond laser systems, enabling the generation of advanced sources of X-rays and accelerated particles. These systems support breakthrough research in physics, chemistry, biology, materials science, and laboratory astrophysics. The facility hosts over 350 researchers, engineers, and professionals from more than 38 countries.

Group Leader of Safety
About the Role
The Safety Group at ELI Beamlines plays a vital role in safeguarding people, research, and infrastructure. The group ensures full compliance with Czech and EU safety legislation and international standards across multiple domains, including:
- Occupational health and safety
- Radiation protection
- Laser safety
- Biological and chemical safety
- Emergency response and preparedness
The Group Leader of Safety will lead the development and implementation of safety strategies, support researchers and technical staff with expert guidance, and ensure that ELI Beamlines maintains a robust, responsive, and proactive safety culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and lead the institutional safety strategy in line with national regulations and scientific operations.
- Provide expert guidance on radiation protection, workplace safety, risk management, and emergency preparedness.
- Coordinate the implementation of safety measures, monitoring systems, procedures, and training programs.
- Serve as the primary liaison with internal stakeholders and relevant external regulatory bodies.
- Support continuous improvement in safety performance and culture across the facility.
What We’re Looking For
- University degree in safety engineering, radiation protection, occupational health, or a related technical field.
- Solid understanding of EU and Czech safety legislation and standards, especially in high-tech or research environments.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in safety management or coordination roles.
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Professional working proficiency in English.
