ELI (Extreme Light Infrastructure) is a multi-site European Research Infrastructure Consortium devoted to the scientific research using new generation lasers. ELI-Beamlines is located in Dolní Břežany (just south of Prague, Czech Republic). It will use high-energy, high-repetition rate, ultra-short primary lasers and secondary ionizing radiation beams for a wide range of interdisciplinary applications in physics, chemistry, medicine, biology and material science. The commissioning of the facility is ongoing.

The radiation protection group addresses problems related to ionizing radiation from radiation protection to detector design by means of Monte Carlo simulations (primarily with FLUKA). In our team we are looking for suitable candidate as: Radiation Physicist

Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  • evaluation of radiation fields by means of Monte Carlo simulations
  • software development for Monte Carlo simulations
  • design and optimization of beam dumps, shielding, etc.
  • close and active cooperation with experimental groups
  • close and active cooperation with collaborating Institutes
  • possible participation in radiation protection operational activities

Required qualifications:

  • university degree or research experience in physics, engineering, or other relevant fields
  • good knowledge of at least one Monte Carlo transport code (e.g. FLUKA, Geant4, MCNP, PHITS, etc.)
  • good knowledge of Linux/Unix OS
  • good knowledge of at least one high level programming language for physics (e.g. Fortran, C/C++, Python)
  • good knowledge of at least one scripting language
  • analytical and computational skills
  • ability to proficiently work both independently and in a team
  • ability to present and document the work done
  • fluency in English (both written and spoken)
  • availability to travel as required by necessity
