Research area: plant biology – algal models

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is one of the 14 departments of the Faculty of AgriSciences at Mendel University in Brno. The UCB team consists of 80 employees who ensure scientific and educational development in the following areas: biochemistry (both plant and animal) and molecular biology, microbiology, algal and plant biotechnology, nanotechnology, and bioanalytical chemistry. In the educational field, the UCB team is focused on assuring and developing two study programs – undergraduate studies in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology and postgraduate studies in Biological Chemistry.

What will your job entail?

  • leading lectures, exercises, and excursions in the field of algal and plant biology research
  • collaboration on lectures in both Czech and English
  • supervising, consulting, and opposing students‘ thesis works
  • developing educational as well as scientific-research and creative activities in the field of plant biology and algal research
  • actively participating in solving research projects and grants
  • publishing results in professional and scientific journals and in the form of contributions at conferences and seminars

What do we expect from you?

  • higher education at least at the doctoral level
  • knowledge of the English language at a minimum B1 level
  • experience in teaching in both Czech and English
  • experience with educational and/or scientific-research activities in the field of plant biology – algal research
  • active participation in solving research projects and grants
  • publishing results of scientific-research activities in professional journals and at conferences and seminars

What research experience do we require?

  • experience working on scientific-research projects in the position of researcher/co-researcher or team member
  • provable practice in research in the area of algal research and algal technologies, and their use in environmental protection (ecotoxicology) for a duration of 3 years
  • at least 7 publications in professional journals or at conferences
