In accordance with the The Competitive Hiring Process Code of Charles University, the Dean of the Faculty of Science of Charles University announces a competitive hiring process with a deadline for applications September 15, 2025
Department of Physical and Macromolecular Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Charles University, invites applications for a position as Assistant Professor from 1 January 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is initially limited for a period of 2 years (full time) with an extension option up to a permanent position. The department conducts basic research in physical, macromolecular, material and biophysical chemistry. The position is open to applicants with expertise in those fields who want to establish a new research group. The department is particularly interested in research topics that will complement the existing activities and foster new collaborative research with other groups of the department. The Assistant Professor’s duties will comprise research at a high international level and a strong commitment and contribution to teaching in chemistry and interdisciplinary programs at all levels. The ideal candidate is expected to contribute to the development of the research profile of the department, to carry out an original outstanding research, to regularly publish in Q1/D1 scientific journals, to collaborate with colleagues establishing a friendly research community, to teach, supervise, and assess students at all levels, and to be able to obtain external funding. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree or equivalent within chemistry, physics or material science. Applications must include a cover letter, CV, documentation of education, a complete list of publications, research prospect (2 pages), teaching prospect (1 page). After the deadline, the applications will be shortlisted according to their quality. Each of the selected candidates will be then given an opportunity to present their previous and proposed research on a departmental seminar and finally the committee will make a selection.

Candidates who progress to the second round of the selection procedure will be invited to an interview. The interview may be conducted by means of information and communication technology if justified, at the request of the candidate. The Committee may invite selected candidates to give a lecture to the academic community of the Faculty.
