Academic Position at the Department of Design and Furniture, Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology
Research field: research and development of new structural solutions, modern materials (including composites and recyclables), surface treatments, and technologies with regard to environmental sustainability, circular economy, and competitiveness of the furniture industry, issues of wood and wood composite gluing, optimization of adhesive and cohesive properties of bonded joints, development of environmentally friendly adhesive systems, and examination of mechanical and long-term properties of bonded connections, including their resistance to loads, moisture, and aging.
The mission of the Department of Design and Furniture is to provide higher education focused on preparing a new generation of professionals in the field of design, manufacturing, and furniture research. The department aims not only to transmit knowledge and skills but also to support the individual creativity and critical thinking of each student. The goal is to allow students to develop their unique approaches and ideas without being constrained by traditional dogmas and clichés. The department also strives to connect theoretical knowledge with practical experience so that students can respond to current challenges in the field and contribute to innovations in the furniture industry.
What will your responsibilities be?
- leading and teaching courses related to design, construction, and manufacturing technologies for furniture
supervising bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral theses, involving students in research activities - conducting research in the areas of design and construction of furniture, innovative materials, technologies, and bonded connections, focusing on sustainability and circular economy
- publishing results in international peer-reviewed journals and presenting them at professional conferences
- preparing and managing national and international research projects, collaborating with industry
- actively participating in the development of the Department of Design and Furniture and building interdisciplinary collaborations
What do we expect from you?
- a university degree in furniture design, wood science, materials engineering, or related fields, completed with a doctoral program (Ph.D.) or advanced completion
- active knowledge of Czech and English languages in both spoken and written forms, enabling scientific communication and teaching
- demonstrable research results in the field of furniture construction and technology, materials, and bonded connections, supported by publications in peer-reviewed journals
- experience with solving or participating in research and application projects, possibly collaborating with industry
- predispositions for pedagogical and creative activities, the ability to lead and motivate students to engage in research
- ability to work both in a team and independently, responsibility, initiative, and interest in long-term
- professional development within the Department of Design and Furniture
What research experience do we require?
- documented experience with scientific research activities in the fields of design, construction, and manufacturing technologies for furniture, modern materials, bonded connections, and surface treatments
- publication activity in peer-reviewed journals, ideally with ties to international databases (WoS, Scopus)
- experience in preparing, solving, or being involved in national and/or international research projects
- ability to present research results at professional conferences and seminars
- experience in laboratory and experimental activities (testing materials, mechanical and long-term properties of connections, surface layers, and their resistance)
- experience with interdisciplinary collaboration bridging design, technology, materials engineering, and sustainability aspects
- experience with collaborating with industrial partners or applying research results in practice is an advantage

- experience in leading or coordinating research teams and projects
- active involvement in international research networks, professional societies, or organizations
- knowledge in the area of digitization and modern technlogies (e.g., CAD/CAM, 3D modeling, additive manufacturing, simulation software)
- ability to establish collaborations with industrial partners and transfer research results into practice
- experience in preparing patents, utility models, or other forms of intellectual property protection
- skills in innovative and environmentally friendly approaches to surface treatment and adhesive bonding

Length of employment: fixed term two years with the possibility of extension to indefinite
