The dean of the Faculty of Arts, Charles University, invites applications for job vacancy with a deadline for applications August 31, 2025

Job description: teaching in Hungarian Studies in BA and MA degree programme (possibly also PhD programme); supervision and reviewing of BA, MA and Ph. theses and projects; original research and publication of its results in major peer-reviewed journals and scientific monographs; regular active participation in international conferences; preparation of grant projects and participation in their implementation; active participation in establishing and maintaining international and intra-university cooperation; outreach and promotional activities for general public; participation in the administrative and organizational operation of the Department of Hungarian Studies or the Institute of Ethnology and Central European and Balkan Studies. The position will commence on 1 October 2025 or at a later date, as mutually agreed. Salary tariff (grade AP2): CZK 39,000 per month

If the career development plan is required, it must aim to commence the habilitation procedure (procedure for the granting of associate professorship) no later than nine years after the expected beginning of employment.

Qualifications

  • Ability to teach and publish scientific papers in Czech OR Slovak, also Hungarian and English. (The language requirements are therefore either Czech or Slovak, not necessarily both languages at the same time.) Ph.D. degree in philological, historical or social sciences. Habilitation, including from abroad, is not required, but may be considered an advantage. Professional and publishing activities with a focus on Hungarian studies (in the field of literary studies, or history, cultural history, etc.). Prior involvement in grant projects will be considered an advantage. Organisational and administrative skills.
