Academic position at the Department of Environmental Science and Natural Resources, Faculty of Regional Development and International Studies
Research area: Environmental political themes of regional development – ecosystem services, support for landscape and settlement resilience, adaptation to climate change, importance of forest ecosystems and forestry for regional development, nature and landscape conservation as part of regional development
At the Department of Environmental Science and Natural Resources, we comprehensively focus on the environmental pillar of sustainable development at strategic, conceptual, and regional levels. We provide scientific, educational, and operational activities in these areas and, in addition to cooperation with other departments of the Faculty of Regional Development and International Studies, we maintain partnerships with various domestic and foreign workplaces. We are also an active member of the university consortium HEROES.
We complement theoretical education with practical examples, field excursions, and exercises. We regularly involve experts from government and non-government institutions, the commercial sector, and the non-profit sector in our teaching. Our work extends beyond the borders of the Czech Republic and the European Union – we also focus on developing regions of Latin America, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Southeast Asia.
What will your job entail?
- Active involvement in leading lectures, exercises, supervising and reviewing student final theses (bachelor’s and master’s) from the curriculum of the departmentActive preparation, submission, and coordination of grant applications and projects in both the scientific-research field and, for example, focusing on development cooperation, engagement, and active collaboration with practice in contract research
- Involvement in solving additional scientific-research tasks focusing on environmental issues, policies and strategies, care and management of natural resources, etc.
- Presenting the results of scientific-research activities to the professional community through expert publications (preferably according to RIV), preferably in indexed databases Scopus and WoS.
- Active participation in conferences and seminars of a national and international character, including organizing one’s own activities
- Involvement in other activities of the workplace: workshops, team building, brainstorming, marketing relationships
- Strong profiling in the area of focus on the development and care of forest ecosystems and nature conservation as elements of regional development of environmental policy integrating into development cooperation and regional development
What do we expect from you?
- University education at the Ph.D. level in natural or environmental sciences, landscape creation and protection, or a related field
- Proven experience in the field of scientific-research activity, contract research, and foreign development cooperation in forestry with an emphasis on environmental policy, economics, and ecosystem management
- Excellent knowledge of the Czech language, ability to teach in Czech
- Knowledge of the English language at a level that allows for leading lectures, exercises, and actively engaging students in discussions, leading workshops, final theses, and publishing preferably in indexed databases Scopus and WoS
- Orientation in the area of environmental support and grants, as well as scientific-research supports, preferably focusing on forestry and environmental protection (suitable accreditation)
- Active knowledge and experience from environmental practice, e.g., significant contributions to practical outputs in nature conservation such as care plans or inventory surveys, participation in expertise or practical studies
- Interest and knowledge of the complex issue of sustainable development at all its levels (environmental, social, and economic), including fields with significant emphasis on forestry, species and area conservation, or agriculture
- Demonstrable publication activity, author or co-author of at least 10 publications indexed in the Web of Science Core Collection
