Academic Staff Member – Assistant Professor for the Department of Crop Science, Breeding and Plant Protection

Research field: pathogens and pests of agricultural and horticultural crops, plant protection

We are a modern university, teaching and researching agriculture, forestry, economic and technical disciplines in regional and international contexts. Since 2018, we have been the holder of the HR Excellence in Research Award for improving employee care, awarded to us as the first Czech university by the European Commission.

The department is involved in phytopathological research, concentrating on pathogens and pests that pose a threat to agricultural and horticultural crops. It investigates the potential of natural substances for plant protection and explores innovative genetic strategies to safeguard crops against viral pathogens. The department has a longstanding commitment to studying insect pest resistance to active insecticidal compounds. Additionally, it undertakes projects focused on abiotic stress, particularly examining the effects of drought on field crops. Furthermore, the department addresses issues related to plant cultivation and breeding, thereby contributing to the advancement of sustainable agriculture.

What will be your job role?

  • conducting lectures and tutorials in the field of plant protection
  • cooperation on lectures in Czech and English
  • creating study materials
  • conducting, consulting and opposing student seminar and final theses
  • developing educational and scientific research and creative activities in the field
  • active participation in research projects and grants
  • publishing results in professional and scientific journals and in the form of papers at conferences and seminars

What are our requirements?

  • university education at the level of Ph.D. with a focus on plant pathogens
  • excellent knowledge of Czech and English language
  • experience in teaching in Czech and English
  • experience in supervising student theses at least as a consultant
  • ability to create applied outputs
  • active participation in scientific projects
    publishing
  • developing cooperation at the international level
  • creative and innovative approach in finding solutions

Required research experience:

  • experience in research and presentation of results in the research field – interest in deepening practical
  • experience by working on research projects

Job status: to the extend of 0,5 (20 hours per week) till 1,0 (40 hours per week)

Expected start: September 2025
