In accordance with the The Competitive Hiring Process Code of Charles University, the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of Charles University announces opening of the following position with submission deadline September 15, 2026

The Department of Algebra offers a position of Assistant Professor, who would strengthen our department in one of the existing research areas, that is in general algebra, algebraic geometry, number theory or mathematical logic, including their computational applications.

Candidates from all the above areas can apply. In the case of equivalent candidates, preference will be given to those who would strengthen the department in the area of ​​algebraic geometry or number theory, or who would professionally contribute to the provision of the study program Mathematics for Information Technology, especially in the areas of cryptography or algebraic computational methods.

The successful candidate is expected to continue active scientific activity, apply for grant support, teach basic and elective courses and conduct qualification theses.

The position is advertised for 3 years with the possibility of extension. The ability to communicate in the Czech language is expected within five years of joining (i.e. before negotiations on the second extension of the contract). In the case of successful habilitation (a formal procedure to become an associate professor) no later than 9 years from admission, a contract for an indefinite period is usually offered.

Expected starting date is February 1, 2027 or September 1, 2027, but in exceptional cases it is possible to arrange another date.

Qualifications

Ph.D. degree in a relevant field, preference will be given to candidates no more than 10 years since the defense (parental leave period excluded). Long-term foreign experience: at least 3 years in doctoral studies or postdoctoral positions, at least one year of work experience at an institution other than where the Ph.D. degree was obtained. Publication activity in leading journals and solid citation response. Experience in managing grant projects an advantage. Positive approach to pedagogical activities.
