Academic Position at the Department of Environmental Studies and Natural Resources, Faculty of Regional Development and International Studies

 

Research Area: Environmental issues in developing countries focusing on Africa, environmental policies in the international arena, ecosystem services, benefits of nature to humans, indigenous knowledge, socio-economic aspects of environmental policy topics, climate change

At the Department of Environmental Studies and Natural Resources, we comprehensively focus on the environmental pillar of sustainable development at strategic, conceptual, and regional levels. We ensure scientific, pedagogical, and operational activities in these areas, and besides cooperation with other departments of the Faculty of Regional Development and International Studies, we maintain partnerships with a number of domestic and foreign institutions. We are also an active member of the university consortium HEROES.

We complement theoretical teaching with practical demonstrations, field trips, and exercises. We regularly involve experts from governmental and non-governmental institutions, the commercial sector, and the non-profit sector in our teaching. Our activities extend beyond the borders of the Czech Republic and the European Union – we also focus on developing regions of Latin America, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Southeast Asia.

What will your job entail?

  • Leading exercises in English for courses focused on environmental issues
  • Consulting, mentoring, and reviewing final student theses
  • Active participation in the preparation of international research projects
  • Implementation of research and educational mobility to developing countries
  • Publication activities in the field of environmental studies
  • Involvement in the solution of research projects and grants carried out by the department
  • Field data collection and analysis focusing on socio-environmental issues and ecosystem services
  • Co-participation in the organizational arrangement of conferences, summer schools, and other academic events organized by the department

What do we expect from you?

  • Higher education at least at the Master’s level in environmental studies or a related field, started Ph.D. studies in the field
  • Excellent command of English, ability to teach and publish in English
  • Experience in teaching environmental subjects in English
  • Active publication record
  • Documented research activities in one of the African countries
  • Experience working on research projects

What additional qualifications will we appreciate?

  • Experience with abroad internships
  • Driver’s license for personal vehicles
  • Basic user skills in GIS
  • Knowledge of statistical methods used in environmental sciences
  • Willingness to travel for more than a month to developing regions
  • Experience working with academic AI
  • Proactive, creative, independent approach to work as well as team collaboration
