Postdoctoral Researcher: Transcriptomics analysis for global gene profiling of transformants and interactome analysis in viroid pathogenesis
Institute of Plant Molecular Biology, Biology Centre of the Academy of Sciences Branisovska 1160/31, 37005 České Budějovice, Czech Republic (http://www.umbr.cas.cz/en/homepage/). The Institute of Plant Molecular Biology (IPMB) was founded in 1990 when several genetically oriented teams split from the Institute of Experimental Botany in Prague and moved to České Budějovice. The Institute is well equipped with instruments and facilities necessary for plant molecular biology and work with genetically modified organisms and plant pathogens. The position is requested for Department of Molecular Genetics. This department focuses on viroid research, functional genomics of hop.
Overview Of Role:
We have an exciting opportunity for postdoctoral position to join our research team headed by Dr. Jaroslav Matoušek (Head of Department), whose aims are to improve secondary metabolite production in Humulus lupulus (hop) and increase our understanding of lupulin gland morphogenesis, mechanisms of viroid-mediated pathogenesis (HSVd, HLVd, AFCVd, CBCVd and PSTVd) in hop, tomato, Nicotiana tabacum and N. benthamiana as model plant system and the impact of viroid pathogenesis in lupulin metabolome content in hop. Our department has an excellent track-record in hop research, plant pathology and computational biology. Over the past years, our team characterized various structural genes and transcriptional factors (TFs) involved in lupulin metabolome biosynthesis pathways. Recently, our research group has been succeeded in producing different transgenic hop lines to enhance the lupulin metabolome content in hop. Our current research continues to transcriptome-based analysis of over expressing and targeted gene knockout transformant line in furthering our understanding and mining new candidate genes and TFs involve in the regulation the bitter acids and prenylflavanoids biosynthesis pathway in hop. In addition, we have recently identified new bromodomain-containing RNA-binding protein (BCP). We aim at gaining a systems-level understanding how this new BCP interact with viroid and silence or modulate the gene expression level of host by integrating CRISPR-Cas9 genome-editing technology and high throughput sequencing technologies.
The post-holder will assist in functional genomics projects involving application of molecular biology and computational biology tools, focussing on fulfilling both afore mentioned objectives. In addition to conducting innovative research of an international quality, the post-holder will be responsible to design grant applications addressing some of the objectives listed above, presenting outcome of research internally to colleagues and externally at scientific conferences, assisting with the preparation of reports and with writing research manuscripts and review articles.
The candidate should have a PhD degree in biotechnology or molecular biology as well as excellent experience in bioinformatics. Candidates are also required to have prior post-doc experience, first or co-first author publications in their respective field as well as written and oral communication skills.
Duration of contract
The position is funded for a minimal initial period of 2 years starting from April 1st, 2018, with possibility of extension. The selected candidate will be offered with a salary ~2200 EUR gross per month.
How to apply
Applications, including (1) a CV with publication list with three best research articles, (2) a description of research experiences, (3) a statement of scientific interests and motivation for applying to this position, as well as (4) the contact information of 2-3 references, should be sent as single pdf file to: Vendula.Aubrechtova@bc.cas.cz with copy to email@example.com. Initial enquiries or questions about the position are welcome and should be addressed to Dr. Ajay Kumar Mishra via email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Dr. Jaroslav Matoušek (email@example.com) as well.
The Evaluation Committee will convene in March 2018 and candidates may be requested for additional information with Skype interview.
