The Departments of the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology at Mendel University in Brno represent modern and dynamic workplaces with a long tradition and robust scientific background. The Department of Forest Botany, Dendrology and Geobiocenology is one of the largest departments in the faculty and guarantees the teaching of a wide range of subjects focused on plants and their communities, especially general and special botany, dendrology, phytocenology, forestry typology, landscape ecology, nature and landscape conservation, geobiocenology, and eco-physiology of woody plants. It also focuses on the issues of botany, dendrology, and agroforestry of tropical and subtropical regions. The department manages a comprehensive herbarium (with around 60,000 items) and the arboreta in Křtiny, Řícmanice, and Habrůvka. An integral part includes research, development, and teaching projects in both temperate zones and tropical and subtropical regions.

What will your job responsibilities be?

  • Planning, organizing, and overseeing all aspects of the department’s activities
  • Managing the department’s budget and resources
  • Supervising academic and research staff and employees of the department, including their regular evaluations
  • Teaching and research activities in the field
  • Ensuring high-quality teaching and mentoring of students
  • Supporting research activities and obtaining grants for the department
  • Collaborating with other departments

What do we expect from you?

  • Higher education – at least a Ph.D. in forestry, botany, dendrology, agroforestry, or a related field; the rank of associate professor or professor is an advantage
  • Excellent command of Czech, knowledge of English for teaching and publication purposes
  • Documentable research activity in the fields of forestry, botany, dendrology, agroforestry, or related fields, experience publishing in journals with impact factors and managing research projects at domestic and international levels
  • Ability to navigate labor law regulations and economic rules of management in higher education
  • Organizational, managerial, and communication skills
  • Capability for both teamwork and independent work
  • Personal and professional prerequisites for teaching activities
  • Willingness to work on personal development and professional growth
