A leading research institute in Prague, Czechia, named after Nobel laureate in Chemistry, J. Heyrovský, is seeking a highly motivated senior scientist or postdoctoral researcher for the Department of Spectroscopy.

 

Type of contract: Temporary (with possible extension)

Job status: Full-time

Starting date: By agreement (optionally 1. 8. – 31. 8. 2026)

 

The successful candidate will participate in advanced research focused on the development and implementation of artificial intelligence methods for plasma diagnostics and laser-induced spectroscopy. The work will involve processing and interpretation of emission spectra, development of machine-learning algorithms for spectral analysis, and implementation of AI-assisted approaches in experimental plasma spectroscopy and planetary research.

 

The position includes collaboration on cutting-edge projects in experimental spectroscopy, plasma chemistry, space instrumentation, and planetary science. We would like to highlight that the position will involve the development of unique scientific instrumentation for planetary rovers and landers within international projects carried out in collaboration with the J. Heyrovský Institute of Physical Chemistry, CEITEC Brno, the University of Leipzig, and the University of Stuttgart.

 

Main responsibilities 

Development of AI-based tools for evaluation of spectroscopic and plasma diagnostic data

Processing and interpretation of emission spectra obtained by laser-induced spectroscopy techniques

Implementation of machine learning and neural network algorithms for spectral classification and analysis

Development of data-processing pipelines in Python

Participation in international scientific collaborations and publications

 

Required qualifications 

PhD degree in Physics or Physical Chemistry

Strong experience with Python programming

Experience with machine learning and artificial neural networks

Previous experience with atomic spectroscopy and spectral data analysis

Excellent command of English (spoken and written)

Experience with advanced data-processing algorithms and scientific computing

Ability to work independently as well as within an international research team

 

Preferred qualifications 

Experience with plasma diagnostics

Knowledge of laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) or related techniques

Experience with AI implementation in scientific instrumentation

Publication record in relevant scientific fields
