Přehled

We are a research campus with a strong tradition in biosciences focused on complex ecological, evolutionary & developmental aspects of LIFE.

The Faculty of Science, University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice, Czech Republic, is seeking a motivated

Post-doctoral Researcher in Animal Migration Ecology

The position

You will join the GLOBE research group (Global Life-history, Ornithology & Behavioural Ecology; website under construction), which studies the ecology, behaviour and life-history strategies of wild animals — mainly birds — and the impacts of environmental change.

This position is part of a new ERC CZ grant led by Dr. Vojtěch Kubelka, focusing on whether animal migration remains a beneficial strategy in our rapidly changing world. The research combines fieldwork, experiments and comparative analyses at 16 sites from the Arctic to Patagonia to understand how migratory species cope with climate and human pressures.

What would be your main responsibilities

  • plan and conduct ornithological fieldwork in Europe and South America with international partners
  • combine field data with comparative analyses and literature reviews
  • manage data collection and analysis (large datasets, relational databases)
  • publish in peer-reviewed journals
  • contribute to funding applications
  • supervise students and research assistants
  • communicate results to the scientific community, stakeholders and the public

What we offer

  • 2-year position with possible extension
  • excellent facilities and access to multiple research sites (e.g. Czech Arctic station at Svalbard, field sites from     Morocco to Patagonia)
  • international collaboration and mentoring

  • a stimulating, English-speaking environment with HR Excellence in Research Award
  • competitive salary, 5 weeks paid vacation, meal allowance, childcare options
  • work-life balance in a vibrant, historical university city (budejce.cz/en/)

Your profile

  • PhD in evolutionary biology, behavioural ecology, zoology or related field
  • background in two or more of: evolutionary ecology, climate change biology, demography, predator-prey interactions, animal migration
  • at least 3 years of field research experience (preferably tropical or Arctic)
  • experience with ornithological fieldwork (bird ringing licence welcome)
  • proficiency in statistical modelling (advanced R)
