<job-title>MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship: Research Group of Membrane Separations</job-title>
 <job-description>
Host Researcher: Petr Stanovský, Ph.D.

Head of Research Group: Petr Stanovský, Ph.D.

Research keywords: Membrane gas separation; CO₂ capture; organic compounds separation; functional polymeric membranes; molecular dynamics modelling

The Research Group of Membrane Separations focuses on the development, characterization, and application of membrane-based separation processes for gaseous and liquid mixtures. The group has long-standing expertise in the separation of gas mixtures, including the purification of biogas and industrial waste gases, with particular attention to the removal of sour gases such as CO₂ and SO₂. Our research includes polymer membranes with functional modifications, such as supported ionic liquids, hierarchically porous particles, polymers of intrinsic microporosity. The group also investigates liquid separations. We apply molecular dynamics modeling to understand transport, selectivity, and molecular interactions in complex separation environments.

Possible postdoctoral project focus:

The proposed project will explore advanced functional membranes for challenging gas or liquid separations, with a focus on the relationship between membrane structure, transport properties, and separation performance. Possible research directions include CO₂, SO₂, or other harsh gases separation using functionalized particle- or liquid-based composite membranes, membrane-based processes for the separation of organic compounds or enantiomers, and machine learning-enriched molecular dynamics modeling to predict a suitable membrane for selected species. The project should, at best, combine advanced experimental techniques with modeling approaches and will offer the candidate flexibility to refine existing methodologies or introduce new concepts.

The Institute of Chemical Process Fundamentals of the CAS is a public research institution that specializes in chemical and environmental engineering, and materials chemistry. In addition to systematic fundamental research, the institute also engages in applied research and strives to support the next generation of scientists through training programs for Ph.D students. Thanks to its interdisciplinary approach, the institute promotes technological innovations, addresses environmental and societal challenges, and encourages collaboration between academia, industry and, society.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

Have been awarded or have successfully defended a PhD in chemical engineering, materials science, membrane science, physical chemistry, environmental engineering, or a related field by 9 September 2026

Have no more than 8 years of full-time research experience after receiving their PhD

Not have lived or worked in the Czech Republic for more than 12 months during the past 3 years

Application Documents

Interested candidates should submit:

CV, maximum 5 pages

One-page motivation letter, including why they chose the host research group

Two-page research concept briefly describing the research idea, proposed approach, and current state of the art

Application Deadline

The deadline for applications is 15th of June 2026.

Applications should be sent to: stanovsky@icpf.cas.cz
</job-description>

 <job-title>Chief Executive Officer – Diagnostics</job-title>
 <job-description>
ExoDetect is a new subsidiary of Terasom s.r.o., focused exclusively on bringing a breakthrough cancer diagnostic platform to market. The platform isolates exosomes (tiny biological particles shed by cells into the bloodstream) and detects cancer biomarkers using a patented turbidimetric readout – delivering results in under 15 minutes at a fraction of the cost of current liquid biopsy technologies. The technology has been validated on 65 lung cancer and 100+ prostate cancer clinical samples, achieving 90–97% sensitivity. Three patent families protect the core technology. Independent AFM imaging by the Heyrovsky Institute of Physical Chemistry (Prague) has confirmed the quality of exosome isolation. AI-based analysis of the diagnostic data is being performed by Nanometrix (London).

The company has an existing prototype isolation device and readout instrument, a regulatory roadmap prepared by QbD Group (Belgium), and a team of 5 scientists in Prague. What it needs now is an operational leader who can take this from prototype to product.

Leadership Structure

ExoDetect is led by its co-founders:

Dr. Daniela Pankova (Co-Founder & CSO) – responsible for scientific direction, core technology development, and translational strategy

Jonathan Jackson (Co-Founder)

The CEO will work in close partnership with the CSO, ensuring tight integration between scientific innovation and product development, and will be responsible for operational execution and company scaling.

The Role & Challenge

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on CEO to lead ExoDetect through its next phase: transforming a validated prototype into a robust, manufacturable, and commercially viable diagnostic product.

This is a high-impact, execution-focused role, requiring close collaboration with scientific leadership and direct involvement in engineering, regulatory, and commercial strategy.

The role expects to be a leader who can translate scientific innovation into a real-world product, in close collaboration with the founding team.

Someone comfortable operating at the intersection of engineering, regulatory, and business.

A builder who thrives in a resource-constrained, high-potential startup environment.

This role exists because the company faces specific, concrete engineering and commercialisation challenges that require an experienced IVD operator to solve:

Find the company to redesigning the specific prototype into the fully working equipment.

The company needs to navigate a three-stage regulatory pathway: Research Use Only (4–6 months), then IVDR Class A (8–12 months), then IVDR Class C diagnostic approval (20–24 months).

The $5M investment that was expected has not materialised. The company needs to find alternative funding through grants, angel investment, and early revenue.

What You Will Do

Device Engineering & Manufacturing (First 6 Months – Highest Priority)

Select and engage a Design for Manufacture (DFM) engineering firm to redesign both the isolation device and readout instrument for volume production.

Manage the DFM relationship through assessment, concept design, detailed design, and prototyping.

Redesigning and simplifying existing prototypes. Target: injection-moulded, assembly time under 5 minutes.

Solve the readout device environmental sensitivity problem – either through on-board compensation or optical redesign.

Qualify manufacturing partners for production at volumes of 200–10,000 units.

Supporting other 3 independent programs.

Supporting patents applications.

Regulatory & Quality

Execute the QbD Scenario 1 roadmap: establish ISO 9001 QMS, achieve RUO product launch within 6 months.

Prepare for QbD Scenario 2: transition to ISO 13485, IVDR Class A self-declaration.

Implement design controls from the outset to minimise rework for IVDR Class C.

Oversee clinical sample collection and clinical performance studies for IVDR Class C validation.

Commercial & Revenue

Launch the RUO isolation device to research customers, biotech companies, and academic institutions.

Develop the commercial strategy: pricing, distribution, key accounts.

Build relationships with pharma companies for biomarker discovery and clinical trial partnerships.

Generate first revenue within 9–12 months of joining.

Fundraising

Lead grant applications (EIC Accelerator, EIC Pre-Accelerator, TACR SIGMA).

Prepare and execute a bridge funding round (€2–€5M).

Build relationships with biotech-focused investors for a future Series A.

Team & Operations

Manage the Prague laboratory and team of 5 scientists on a day-to-day basis.

CEO works in close partnership with CSO, who leads scientific direction and core technology development.

Report to the co-founders (Jonathan Jackson and Dr. Daniela Pankova).

Hire additional team members as needed (engineer, commercial, regulatory).

Required Qualifications

Must-Have

5+ years of leadership experience in an IVD, medical device, or diagnostics company – ideally in an early-stage or scaling environment.

Direct, hands-on experience taking a medical device or IVD product from prototype through CE-marking (EU MDR or IVDR) and first commercial sales.

Understanding of Design for Manufacture processes – you must have worked with engineering firms to turn a prototype into a production-ready product.

Strong knowledge of ISO 13485, IVDR regulatory requirements, and design control processes.

Demonstrated success in fundraising: track record of securing at least €2M in combined grants and investment.

Based in Prague or willing to relocate immediately. This cannot be a remote role.

Fluent English. Czech language skills are a plus but not required.

Highly Desirable

Experience with optical/spectroscopic instruments or point-of-care diagnostic devices.

Understanding of liquid biopsy, biomarkers, or molecular diagnostics.

Experience with EU grant applications (Horizon Europe, EIC Accelerator).

Network in European diagnostics, pharma, or MedTech investment communities.

Experience managing contract manufacturers and outsourced engineering.

What We Are NOT Looking For

A pure scientist – we have world-class scientific leaderships.

A big-company executive who needs large teams and infrastructure – this is a startup where the CEO will be hands-on in everything from DFM reviews to supplier negotiations.

Someone who has never personally shepherded a device through CE-marking – we need someone who has done this before, not someone who has managed people who did it.

A remote worker – Prague lab presence is non-negotiable.

Compensation

Base salary: €80,000–€120,000 per annum.

Equity: base 4–5 % of ExoDetect subsidiary (vesting over 4 years, 1-year cliff), potentially additional 2–3 % milestone-based: (funding, CE mark, revenue) or bonuses tied to achievement.

Potential path to CEO of the Terasom parent company based on performance.

Relocation supports available.

Reporting & Structure

Reports to: Co-Founders (Jonathan Jackson, 70% and Dr. Daniela Pankova, 30%).
Company: ExoDetect – a subsidiary of Terasom s.r.o.
Direct reports: Laboratory team (5 scientists), future hires.
Key partners: DFM engineering firm, QbD Group (Belgium), Nanometrix (London), RP World
(Shanghai),Dehns (England), Cambridge Consultants (England).

How to Apply

Please submit a CV and a brief cover letter (maximum 1 page) addressing two questions:
(1) Describe a specific medical device or IVD product you personally took from prototype to CE-mark – what was the biggest engineering challenge and how did you solve it?
(2) What would you do in your first 90 days at ExoDetect?

Contact: daniela.pankova@terasom.org

Applications reviewed on a rolling basis.
Only short-listed candidates will be contacted.

Target start date: June–July 2026.
</job-description>

 <job-title>PhD Fellowship in Physics</job-title>
 <job-description>
PhD Fellowship in Physics

Workplace: Department of Theoretical Physics and Astrophysics, Faculty of Science, Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic

Thesis Topic: Acousto-Optical Interaction in Optical Fibres

Supervisor: prof. Tomáš Tyc

Type of Cooperation: PhD fellowship (more information on PhD study programmes at the Faculty of Science here)

Expected Start Date: September 14, 2026

Application Deadline: May 10, 2026

About the Workplace

We are looking for highly motivated graduates to join the Optics group at Department of Theoretical Physics and Astrophysics at Faculty of Science, Masaryk University. We have rich expertise in optics, in particular light propagation in optical fibres.

Masaryk University is modern, dynamic and the most attractive university in the Czech Republic with ten faculties, more than 6500 staff and 33 000 students, a wide range of research areas and a strong international position. We are the largest academic employer in the South Moravian Region.

Faculty of Science MU, a holder of the HR Excellence in Research Award by the European Commission, is a research-oriented faculty, offering university education (Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral degree programs) closely linked to both primary and applied research and high school teaching of the following sciences: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Earth sciences. We are the most productive scientific unit of the Masaryk University generating around 40 % of MU research results.

Description

Optical fibres are the backbone of modern civilization. But what if the very cables carrying our data could also be used to eavesdrop on our voices? This PhD project investigates the Acousto-Optical effect, where acoustic waves (sound) subtly deform optical fibres, creating detectable changes in light propagation. We are looking for a driven researcher to explore these mechanisms, assess the security risks of fibre-based interception, and develop countermeasures to protect communication networks.

Selected student will have an opportunity to:

Investigate detailed mechanisms of acousto-optical interaction in various types of optical fibres.

Assess the real-world risks of communication interception and propose mitigation strategies.

In collaboration with our partner institution at Brno University of Technology, utilize high-stability laser light and scattering analysis to reconstruct acoustic signals.

Offered Conditions

Selected candidates will receive a comprehensive guidance and training in various fields of modern physics.

Besides, studying at our Faculty is an opportunity to study and live in a modern and dynamic city and one of 10 best student cities worldwide.

In addition to the standard PhD scholarship at Masaryk University (CZK 15 000 per month), additional funds are provided through departmental resources (assignment in research projects, additional scholarships). An overall monthly income is typically around CZK 30 000, which provides a stable income more than sufficient for a comfortable student life in the Czech Republic.

Additional support includes performance-based bonuses (scholarships for successfully published papers) as well as support for international mobility or attendance of conferences etc.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Master degree in Physics (required at the time of enrolment to the PhD study program).

Solid understanding of optics and theory of electromagnetic fields.

Advanced skills in MATLAB, Python, or similar languages for data analysis and simulation.

Fluency in English (written and oral).

Strong commitment to research excellence and completing the PhD studies.

How to Apply

Please send your curriculum vitae, cover letter with a concise summary of your previous research activities to

Faculty of Medicine, Masaryk University, Kamenice 5, 62500 Brno, Czech Republic

Professor Tomas Tyc, tomtyc@physics.muni.cz

Selection Process

Received applications will be continuously reviewed and carefully considered. Shortlisted applicants meeting the requirements will be invited to an interview.

Please note that your application does not substitute an official admission process to Ph.D. studies at SCI MUNI. Details including discussion about the research topic, required documentation or formalities will be a subject of the interview with successful candidates. Only upon the informal pre-agreement with potential future supervisor, a formal application for PhD studies at Faculty of Science, Masaryk University can be submitted.

We are looking forward to hearing from you!
</job-description>

<job-title>PhD Positions in Quantitative Imaging of Ciliary Transport</job-title>
 <job-description>
Institute of Biotechnology of the Czech Academy of Sciences announces an open competition in accordance with the Act No. 283/1992 Coll. on the Czech Academy of Sciences, and the Statutes of the Czech Academy of Sciences for a position:

PhD Positions in Quantitative Imaging of Ciliary Transport

The Institute of Biotechnology (IBT) invites applications for multiple PhD positions in the newly established Laboratory of Intracellular Dynamics led by Aniruddha Mitra, PhD.

Our lab explores how molecular motors and cytoskeletal systems organize cells into functional compartments. Using C. elegans sensory neurons, we combine genetics, advanced fluorescence microscopy, and single-molecule biophysics to uncover how proteins are selectively transported into cilia—tiny cellular antennae essential for sensing and signaling.

We are recruiting PhD students for two complementary project tracks:

Track A — Single-Molecule Dissection of Ciliary Entry

This project focuses on how membrane proteins are sorted at the ciliary base and engage with intraflagellar transport (IFT) trains to enter the cilium. You will use single-molecule imaging in living neurons to track proteins from dendritic transport to ciliary entry and quantify their interactions with the IFT machinery. The goal is to reveal the physical and molecular principles that preserve ciliary identity.

You will work with state-of-the-art microscopy, genetically encoded reporters, and quantitative image analysis to study molecular dynamics in vivo.

Track B — Developing Next-Generation Imaging with Synthetic Dyes

This project centers on building new imaging technology. You will help develop methods that combine ensemble (bulk) and single-molecule measurements in the same living cell, using self-labelling tags (HaloTag/SNAP-tag) and bright synthetic fluorophores.

You will establish strategies to:

Track individual molecules over long times with superior brightness and photostability.

Image the same protein population simultaneously at single-molecule and ensemble levels.

Visualize transport, entry, exit, and recycling of proteins in sensory cilia in real time.

This track sits at the intersection of optical physics, chemical biology, and cell biology, with substantial freedom for technological innovation.

These position are for you if you:

Are excited by quantitative biology at the interface of physics and cell biology.

Enjoy microscopy and learning how to extract meaning from complex image data.

Like thinking mechanistically about dynamic cellular processes.

Are curious, inventive, and motivated to learn new experimental and computational skills.

Candidate profile:

Master’s degree in molecular/cellular biology, biophysics, physics, bioengineering, chemistry, or a related field.

Interest in microscopy and quantitative approaches.

Prior experience with C. elegans, imaging, optics, or coding is welcome but not required.

Preferred start date: Flexible (2026)

Application deadline: Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.

We offer

Fully funded PhD positions (or co-funded according to admission outcome).

Training in advanced live-cell and single-molecule microscopy.

An international, interdisciplinary environment at the BIOCEV research center.

Access to state-of-the-art imaging facilities (TIRF, spinning-disk, lattice light-sheet).

Supportive mentoring in a newly built, creative research group where you can shape your project.

About the Institute of Biotechnology of the Czech Academy of Sciences

The Institute of Biotechnology of the Czech Academy of Sciences (IBT, ibt.cas.cz) is a top-class multi-disciplinary public research institution in the Czech Republic whose mission is to research biomolecular mechanisms, the understanding of which contributes to the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and the emergence of innovative biotechnologies. IBT is located in the BIOCEV center (biocev.eu) operated by the Czech Academy of Sciences and Charles University. IBT has 230 employees, three quarters of which work in research.

Location

IBT is located in the BIOCEV center in Vestec, Prague-west, 30 minutes from the city center by public transport.

How to apply

Send your application including:

CV

motivation letter (please indicate whether you are interested in Track A, Track B, or both) including contact details of one or two references

through our website: https://www.ibt.cas.cz/en/career-and-education/career-and-study/. Other forms of your application will not be considered.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an online or on-site interview and asked to present their recent work and research direction.

For more information, please contact Aniruddha Mitra (aniruddha.mitra@ibt.cas.cz)

Join us to uncover—and invent—new ways of seeing how molecules work inside living cells.

More details on the processing of personal data are available on the website: https://www.ibt.cas.cz/cs/o-ustavu/uredni-deska/gdpr/.

</job-description>
