The NanoPerspective project is developed in collaboration with Mendel University, which has extensive experience in the development of modern nanomaterials and in vitro operations. VITROTREE BY BATTISTINI s.r.o. plans to establish a manufacturing division focused on nanomaterials with antibacterial effects and their integration into the production process.
The project addresses the need to reduce costs, increase efficiency, and improve the quality and reliability of in vitro production, which often faces issues with bacterial contamination and costly sterilization procedures. The aim is to develop and implement a new type of antibacterial nanomaterial intended for application directly into in vitro media after sterilization (up to 55 °C). This approach will help limit the occurrence of bacterial infections, reduce sterilization costs, and promote the use of biodegradable materials.
The project focuses on two technological intentions:
The successful realization of both intentions will also enable the energy and waste transformation of the company, particularly reducing dependency on natural gas and improving the processing of biodegradable waste.

Through its activities, the Department of Wood Science and Wood Technology engages in all areas related to the processing and use of wood, from traditional crafts to Industry 4.0. In developing new materials, methods, and technologies, we draw on the latest scientific results, but we are also not afraid to learn from history. The Department of Forest Botany, Dendrology and Geobiocenology is one of the largest departments in the faculty and guarantees the teaching of a wide range of subjects focused on plants and their communities, especially general and special botany, dendrology, phytocenology, forestry typology, landscape ecology, nature and landscape conservation, geobiocenology, and eco-physiology of woody plants. It also focuses on the issues of botany, dendrology, and agroforestry of tropical and subtropical regions. The department manages a comprehensive herbarium (with around 60,000 items) and the arboreta in Křtiny, Řícmanice, and Habrůvka. An integral part includes research, development, and teaching projects in both temperate zones and tropical and subtropical regions.

]]>UJEP (Jan Evangelista Purkyně University) is looking for a motivated PhD student to work on the themes of Trophic Rewilding and Post-Mining Landscape
The project focuses on post-industrial sites in the Ústí nad Labem Region, directly or indirectly affected by brown coal mining. It evaluates the potential of trophic rewilding for further revitalization and subsequent management. Specifically, the project concentrates on the possibilities of using naturalistic grazing by autochthonous large herbivores (wild and de-domesticated forms), whose reintroduction has the potential to restore biodiversity, ecological resilience and resistance, and development of long-term self-sustaining ecosystems. Furthermore, the research will benefit from the extensive experience of our partners at other locations in the Czech Republic, where rewilding has been successfully implemented for more than 10 years.

v Must have a good motivation and interest to carry out research in the field Ecology
v The applicant must have a Master degree (MSc or equivalent) in the field of natural sciences, preferably in Ecology/ Earth Sciences / Vegetation Ecology / Botany / Zoology / Landscape Ecology.
v The applicant must have competent knowledge in R programming language or similar. Expirience in GIS would be an advantage.
v Should be ready to travel locally for sampling and monitoring at post-mining sites, as well as internationally for conferences.
v Should be proficient in English.

Work Environment at UJEP:
The faculty of Environment at UJEP is well establish but dynamic working group. The working group is diverse and has a good interdisciplinary environment. We would look for applicants who are motivated and enthusiastic about the research theme. We offer a decent and motivating peer-group mentoring structure and encourage students to develop their own scientific concepts.
The monthly remuneration for the student would be about 37,000 CZK, which is about 1,500 EUR (+ incentives up to another 500 EUR).

Decentralized nature-based systems for minimization of the impact of organic micropollutants in the urban and rural areas
Research area and project description:
We offer a full-time PhD position in an interdisciplinary field encompassing environmental engineering, environmental chemistry and sciences. The successful candidate will join the research team of prof. Jan Vymazal at the Department of Applied Ecology (Wetlands Group - Faculty of Environmental Sciences Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague - ČZU) and will be supervised by Dr. Adam Sochacki.
The PhD student will be part of two projects investigating the applications of nature-based systems for the treatment of combined sewer overflows, greywater, parking runoff and sewage for minimizing the effect of the load organic micropollutants into the environment. Two of the studied sites are located on the ČZU campus, which the Pavillion of Environmental Studies and the nearby green parking lot. The main objective of the PhD student’s research will focus on understanding the quality and quantity of organic micropollutants in various types of wastewater (sewage, parking lot runoff, combined sewer overflow, greywater) and the role of nature-based systems (constructed wetlands, green walls/roofs, biofilters, permeable green parking lot) in retaining/transforming these contaminants and the effect of matrix and intrinsic properties of the systems’ performance.

]]>The Institute of International Relations Prague (IIR) is an independent public research institution that conducts excellent academic research in the larger field of international relations. It is established by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic. The IIR's mission is to conduct internationally recognized, excellent basic and applied research in the field of international studies, contribute to the formation and conduct of Czech foreign policy, and increase awareness of international relations issues among both professionals and the public. A full-time postdoctoral position is to be filled at the Institute of International Relations Prague (IIR), within the CLOSER project, funded by the European Research Council (ERC). This interdisciplinary project aims to explore social cleavage and party politics in the post-Ottoman space of the Middle East and North Africa.
The position is to be filled at the Institute of International Relations; to work as part of a team of political scientists (the rest of the team will be hosted at the Institute of Sociology of the Czech Academy of Sciences). CLOSER also encompasses two other teams: historians working at the Oriental Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences, and geographers at Brussels Free University (ULB). Based at the Institute of International Relations, the successful candidate will conduct their research in the framework of the project.

Description of the position
The successful candidate will be part of the ERC CLOSER team of political scientists. During the first year in Prague, they will benefit from specific interdisciplinary training, together with the PhD students and senior researchers from the three teams on the project. During the second year, they are expected to do field research in the studied country, within an interdisciplinary team of researchers belonging to the project. During the third year in Prague, they will participate in a series of workshops to discuss their findings in relation to the project.
Theme of the research project
The candidate’s research project should cover the following theme: Peasant and environmental mobilisations in politics. The candidate will do a quantitative cross-country comparison at the scale of the six-case studies part of the CLOSER project (Türkiye, Former British Mandate for Palestine, Lebanon, Kuwait, Egypt and Tunisia). An additional focus on Lebanon would be a plus.

Description
Optical fibres are the backbone of modern civilization. But what if the very cables carrying our data could also be used to eavesdrop on our voices? This PhD project investigates the Acousto-Optical effect, where acoustic waves (sound) subtly deform optical fibres, creating detectable changes in light propagation. We are looking for a driven researcher to explore these mechanisms, assess the security risks of fibre-based interception, and develop countermeasures to protect communication networks.

]]>We are seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate with a background in molecular imaging, molecular biology, nanotechnology, or related disciplines to join our freshly established lab of Nanovesicle Engineering at the Charles University in Prague, Czechia.
The project will focus on the development of genetically engineered extracellular vesicles (EVs) designed for image-guided targeted drug delivery. The project has two components: 1) genetic engineering of EVs to endow them with enhanced targeting and other desirable properties and 2) label and visualizing EVs in vivo using multimodal chelates, polymers and nanoparticles synthesized by excellent collaborators. The efficiency of such drug delivery systems will be assessed by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or optical imaging in animal models or various pathologies (cancer, neurodegeneration etc.).

For this QUESTING PhD position at the VSB Technical University of Ostrava, we are seeking a researcher to work on improving the efficiency of secret key rate in post-processing of QKD link.
The topic of the dissertation is “Improving the Efficiency of the Secret Key Rate in the Post-processing of a QKD Link”. PhD studies are organized at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in the Communication Technology study program. During the studies, a doctoral student must complete four milestones - a dissertation topic discussion, a dissertation theses discussion, a pre-defense, and finally a dissertation defense.
Objectives:
● a) Investigating advanced error correction algorithms: Techniques such as LDPC and Polar codes will be studied to reduce communication overhead and computational load while maintaining high error correction efficiency.
● b) Enhancing privacy amplification efficiency: Algorithms will be designed to minimize key length reductions while maintaining security, optimizing complexity to scale with network demands.
● c) Optimizing key reconciliation protocols: Efforts will focus on maximizing throughput and minimizing key discard rates by fine-tuning reconciliation parameters under various channel conditions.
● d) Reducing overhead in raw key sifting: The volume of raw key data exchanged between QKD nodes will be minimized, reducing latency and improving resource utilization.
● e) Applying machine learning techniques: Dynamic selection of optimal post-processing protocols will be achieved by evaluating real-time network conditions and adjusting based on metrics such as key generation rate, noise levels, and latency.
The PhD student will spend 4 months at University of Essex (United Kingdom), hosted by Prof. Michael Baros, to define optimal network topology of the trusted-relay satellite QKD network.
The student will also spend 3 months at Austrian Institute of Technology (Austria), hosted by Dr. Martin Stierle, to address QoS routing/signaling protocol for the proposed satellite network.

The Multiphase Reactors Research Group focuses on fundamental transport phenomena in multiphase systems, combining advanced experiments, theoretical modelling, and numerical simulations. Its research aims to refine existing models and develop new approaches for accurately describing complex multiphase processes. The group investigates transport mechanisms across multiple spatial and temporal scales, including bubbly, granular, and suspension flows. A key objective is to link microscale interactions between bubbles, droplets, and particles with the macroscopic behaviour of the system through a multiscale framework.
Possible postdoctoral project focus:
The project will focus on the dynamics of fluid particles under specific hydrodynamic conditions that lead to either breakup or coalescence. It aims to link simplified experimental studies of breakup and coalescence efficiency with the kernels required for population balance modelling. The candidate will have the opportunity to develop and implement innovative approaches to enhance existing experimental methods and better approximate real flow conditions in multiphase reactors.

The group investigates transport mechanisms across multiple spatial and temporal scales, including bubbly, granular, and suspension flows. A key objective is to link microscale interactions between bubbles, droplets, and particles with the macroscopic behavior of the system through a multiscale framework. Additionally, the group studies interfacial properties and how additives, ions, surfactants, and nanoparticles influence both individual dynamics and overall flow characteristics.

The Aerosol Chemistry and Physics research group focuses on a deeper understanding of the properties and behavior of atmospheric aerosols. A key aspect of this research is the study of the chemical composition of aerosol particles and their size distribution. These properties, for example, determine whether particles can act as cloud condensation nuclei and thus indirectly influence the climate. Significant support for this research is provided by the infrastructure of the National Atmospheric Observatory Košetice (NAOK), whose advanced instrumentation and a 250 m tall tower, enables long-term and detailed monitoring of atmospheric aerosol composition.
Possible postdoctoral project focus:
The postdoctoral researcher will use a high-resolution aerosol mass spectrometer (L-ToF-AMS, Aerodyne) for vertical measurements at the Central European NAOK station. Measurements will be conducted alternately at ground level and at a height of 230 m to capture detailed changes in aerosol chemical composition. The work will include not only technical operation and maintenance of the instrument, but primarily comprehensive analysis of the annual dataset obtained from these measurements, with emphasis on interpretation in the context of atmospheric processes.

Our research focuses on understanding the role of fluorine in modulating hydrogen bonding and conformational preferences in carbohydrates, particularly in oligosaccharides. We aim to synthesize oligosaccharides in which fluorine substituents are regio- and stereoselectively installed in positions where they can influence oligosaccharide hydrogen bonding and conformation. We study the impact of fluorine on the oligosaccharide hydrogen bond network and conformation by spectroscopic methods, especially NMR spectroscopy. Potential applications should identify a suitable oligosaccharide scaffold and positions for introducing fluorine and suggest feasible synthetic methods to prepare the target fluorinated oligosaccharides.

The Institute of Biotechnology (IBT) invites applications for multiple PhD positions in the newly established Laboratory of Intracellular Dynamics led by Aniruddha Mitra, PhD.
Our lab explores how molecular motors and cytoskeletal systems organize cells into functional compartments. Using C. elegans sensory neurons, we combine genetics, advanced fluorescence microscopy, and single-molecule biophysics to uncover how proteins are selectively transported into cilia—tiny cellular antennae essential for sensing and signaling.
We are recruiting PhD students for two complementary project tracks:
Track A — Single-Molecule Dissection of Ciliary Entry
This project focuses on how membrane proteins are sorted at the ciliary base and engage with intraflagellar transport (IFT) trains to enter the cilium. You will use single-molecule imaging in living neurons to track proteins from dendritic transport to ciliary entry and quantify their interactions with the IFT machinery. The goal is to reveal the physical and molecular principles that preserve ciliary identity.
You will work with state-of-the-art microscopy, genetically encoded reporters, and quantitative image analysis to study molecular dynamics in vivo.
Track B — Developing Next-Generation Imaging with Synthetic Dyes

The lab investigates how cytoskeletal systems and molecular motors organize the interior of cells into functional compartments. Using C. elegans sensory neurons as a living model, we combine advanced fluorescence microscopy, single-molecule biophysics, and quantitative analysis to uncover the physical principles governing intracellular transport, protein sorting, and organelle specialization.

About the Institute of Biotechnology of the Czech Academy of Sciences
The Institute of Biotechnology of the Czech Academy of Sciences (IBT, ibt.cas.cz) is a top-class multi-disciplinary public research institution in the Czech Republic whose mission is to research biomolecular mechanisms, the understanding of which contributes to the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and the emergence of innovative biotechnologies. IBT is located in the BIOCEV center (biocev.eu) operated by the Czech Academy of Sciences and Charles University. IBT has 200 employees, three quarters of which work in research.
Location
IBT is located in the BIOCEV center in Vestec, Prague-west, 30 minutes from the city center by public transport.
