Přehled

The Central European Institute of Cosmology and Fundamental Physics (CEICO), at the Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences, welcomes applications for Senior and Junior Postdoctoral Researcher positions.

The duration of the senior post is up to five years, available immediately (initial contract for 3 years, renewable for a further 2 years subject to performance). The monthly gross salary is 70 000 CZK from which tax, social and health insurance are deducted. Candidates are expected to have at least three years of postdoctoral experience in Physics, Engineering or a related field. Experience in leading a research team would be considered as highly beneficial.

The duration of the junior post is up to three years, available immediately (initial contract for 1 year, renewable for a further 2 years subject to performance). The monthly gross salary is 50 000 CZK from which tax, social and health insurance are deducted. Candidates are expected to have completed, or about to complete, a PhD degree in Physics, Engineering or a related field.

Both positions are available immediately but later starting dates are negotiable. An annual travel budget of at least 100 000 CZK is offered.

Successful candidates are expected to become (if not already) active in the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST) project and/or the Dark Energy Science Collaboration (DESC). Further information about LSST and DESC can be found at https://www.lsst.org/ and http://lsst-desc.org/.

Successful candidates will work on any of the following areas of research:

  • Characterization of CCD sensors and science rafts during production and commissioning; optimization of performance of the LSST camera and electronics; understanding of limitations for science observables coming from the instrument
  • LSST science preparations; development and optimization of tools for processing scientific data and data management
  • DESC software development; running and developing of various simulations; study of dark energy probes and observables
  • Test new photosensitive detectors for next-generation cosmological surveys

The application:
Applicants are requested to apply by filling the online form at http://ceico.cz/jobs/postdocs-lsst-2017 and uploading a single pdf file (font size no less than 11) with

  • Curriculum Vitae.
  • List of publications.
  • A one-page statement of past research achievements.
  • A one-page research proposal, describing also how their research interests would fit within CEICO.

The contact details of at least three academic referees must be supplied online. As the application system will contact the referees automatically, it is the applicant’s responsibility to inform them of their application and the deadline.

The deadline for all application material (including reference letters) is 15 October 2017.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Michael Prouza, <prouza@fzu.cz>. Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.

CEICO is a new research centre, established with funds from the Czech Academy of Sciences, the Czech Science Foundation, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and the European Commission. The international team of experts is headed by Martin Schnabl and Costas Skordis and comprises staff members Michael Prouza, Ignacy Sawicki and Alex Vikman, senior scientists Ted Erler and Joris Raeymaekers and another ten postdoctoral researchers and graduate students. The team’s areas of research are: cosmology, gravity, string field theory, and instrumentation for cosmological observations. CEICO values diversity and is committed to equality of opportunity.
